Eight-volume History of the South Urals Awarded Prestigious National Prize

The eight-volume edition of the History of the South Urals, published several years ago by the Publishing Centre of South Ural State University, has been awarded the 2024 National Prize "Cultural Imperium. Books and Projects" in the "Encyclopaedias" category. The awarding ceremony took place at the Novy teatr (New Theatre) in Moscow on February 26th. The prize has existed for a quarter of a century now. Its founders are the Russian State Library (RSL) and the Literaturnaya Gazeta newspaper.

Conference Dedicated to the 25th Anniversary of Historical Education of SUSU Opened at University

The scientific conference on "Russia's Paths in the 20th - Early 21st Centuries: Historical Track or Political Determination?" brought together the founders of the university's historical educational program, its first graduates, and current students. The program of the event held on February 27th and 28th includes reports and master classes by invited historians.

SUSU Student Became Winner of Yevgeny Kaspersky Scholarship

A student of the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science of South Ural State University (SUSU) Oleg Pariev got included in the list of winners of the Yevgeny Kaspersky Scholarship contest. This prestigious project aimed at supporting young researchers in the field of information security is organised with the participation of the Kaspersky Lab and the Gennady Komissarov Foundation for Support of Young Scientists.

Participant of the Special Military Operation and SUSU Student Took Part in the Patriots of the Urals Forum

The second forum Patriots of the Urals was held in Miass, at the initiative of the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia in the Ural Federal District Artem Zhoga. It was also attended by the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler, and Andrey Kuzovlev, a student of SUSU, volunteer of the Special Military Operation and a holder of two Orders of Courage.

Book about Basketball Presented at the SUSU Scientific Library

SUSU traditionally pays much attention to sports and promotion of healthy lifestyle. And some of the related events have quite an unusual format.

On February 20th, on the first floor of the university building 3д, where the SUSU Scientific Library is located, the Basketball Federation of the Chelyabinsk Region presented a 100th Anniversary of Basketball in Chelyabinsk book to the readers. It had been written following an initiative by the Federation President Nikolai Sandakov.

Students and teaching staff members of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications prepared a concert for the International Mother Language Day.

In celebration of the Defender of the Fatherland Day, SUSU Dobro.Tsentr organized a patriotic event “Letter to the Front”, where everyone interested could write a postcard to participants of the Special Military Operation, in the co-working space on the first floor of the second university building.

SUSU Students Will Participate in Mitigation of Emergency Consequences in Anapa

On the eve of the Defender of the Fatherland Day, a group of students from South Ural State University set off to the Krasnodar Territory to help in the mitigation of the emergency consequences of the fuel-oil residue spill in the Black Sea. Volunteers Sergey Yarin, Anna Kutikova, Aleksandr Tsimerman and Ivan Borovkov joined the big-scale coast cleaning operation.

The university leadership fully supports the initiative by the students.

Student Labour Union Teams Dance Festival Wrapped Up at SUSU

The finals of the 18th Student Labour Union Teams Dance Festival was held on stage of the Assembly Hall of the main University Building of South Ural State University on February 15th. More than 140 participants demonstrated their skills in categories two: Group Dance and Couple Dance. The audience accounted for 300 people.

Stress after the Pandemic. Scientists Found that COVID-19 Provokes Depression among Young People

SUSU scientists took part in a major research study on the spread of somatic stress in Russia. The work is based on a survey among10205 people conducted during the pandemic. The results obtained show that young Russians are more susceptible to somatic and psychological stress than their peers in Europe.

Presentation of On the Way to a Superpower Book by Pavel Krasheninnikov Held at SUSU

Presentation of a new book On the Way to a Superpower. The State and Law in Times of War and Peace. 1939-1953, by deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Pavel Krasheninnikov, was held in the hall of School 21 at South Ural State University on February 20th. This is the seventh book in a series on the history of the Russian state and law from Kievan Rus' to the present day.

Hero of Russia, Chairman of the Board of the Movement of the First Project Artur Orlov Paid a Working Visit to SUSU

On February 19th, at School 21 of South Ural State University, school pupils met with the Hero of Russia, Chairman of the Board of the Movement of the First Project Artur Orlov.

Artur Orlov is a Russian military serviceman, major, and tank battalion commander. He is a holder of many military decorations: he was awarded the Medal of Suvorov, and he is a double recipient of the Order of Courage. In 2022, for his participation in the Special Military Operation, Artur Orlov was granted the highest state honour and was awarded the title of the Hero of Russia.

Let There Be Light: SUSU Opens a New Exhibition

The Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities and the People and Technologies of the Urals Educational Museum and Exhibition Complex have presented a “Let There Be Light!” exhibition.

Guests crowd in the scantily lit exhibition hall of the university. It is very strange: exhibits do not have sufficient lighting. But things are not that simple. The full value of electric light is revealed through the darkness.

The Student Ice Hockey League team have become winners in the 2025 Generation Cup match, which took place at ice hockey Arena Metallurg in Magnitogorsk. In the fifth matchup between the teams of the Student Ice Hockey League and the National Junior Hockey League the students won 4:2.

Test Your “Twin Flame”: Student Wedding Event Held at SUSU

On Valentine's Day, the traditional SUSU Student Wedding event was held in the hall on the second floor of the main university building.

This year’s event’s theme was mysticism. All those willing could attend a spiritualistic séance: solve the mystery of each other, test their “twin flame” (understand and hear each other without a sound uttered), consult with a professional astrologist, as well as learn about their compatibility with a friend or romantic partner.

Give Books with Love: SUSU Library Opens a Book-crossing Point at the Inter-university Campus

February 14th is a special day not only for romantic couples, but also for those who love reading. The International Book Giving Day is celebrated on this date. The Scientific Library of South Ural State University prepared a special gift for students living at the inter-university campus. In the co-working space of the campus hotel, a Book-crossing Point was opened: a place where all those willing can share their favourite books with other people.

Alexander Wagner Presented the Results of the SUSU's Scientific Work at the Meeting of the Council on Issues of Higher Education and Science under our Region's Governor

This event was traditionally held on the occasion of the Russian Science Day and dedicated to summing up the results of work, assessment of the current projects, and determining new fields of development. Governor Alexey Texler noted that the Chelyabinsk Region is a sturdy and industrially developed region with many science-intensive productions and a solid foundation in the form of strong scientific and educational organizations and hundreds of industrial enterprises, including those of the defence industry complex.  

Lucky Charm: SUSU Students Learned How to Make Chinese Lanterns

South Ural Association of International Students and Alumni has come up with a series of educational events on the occasion of the Chinese New Year.

One of the events was a master class on making Chinese lanterns. It was held by student Ruxue Wang. It was also a chance to practice her knowledge of the Russian language.

Deep Vision Returned with Victory Cups from Sochi!

Deep Vision Dance Theatre, under the leadership of Ekaterina Galanova, took part in the “8th National Award” Closed Project in the field of modern choreography, “Choreographer Sergey Smirnov Prize”, in Sochi February 2nd through February 5th.

Our dance theatre became a 1st degree certificate winner with the “Scarecrow” performance and a 2nd degree laureate with the “Along and Across” and “A Quarter to Four” numbers.
