This event was traditionally held on the occasion of the Russian Science Day and dedicated to summing up the results of work, assessment of the current projects, and determining new fields of development. Governor Alexey Texler noted that the Chelyabinsk Region is a sturdy and industrially developed region with many science-intensive productions and a solid foundation in the form of strong scientific and educational organizations and hundreds of industrial enterprises, including those of the defence industry complex.
The Governor in detail reviewed the results of implementing the regional programs for supporting science: these are the projects of the Ural Interregional Research and Education Centre for Advanced Industrial Technologies and Materials (UIREC) (over the recent years, the regional budget investments in the mount of almost 500 mln. roubles have facilitated the implementation of a number of successful projects, including such well-known ones as the designing of an Arctic bus); regional contests, jointly with the Russian Science Foundation (since 2020, grant support has been allocated to 106 research projects for the total amount of about 300 mln. roubles of regional co-funding). Specifically, the Governor mentioned the active support of the participation of South Ural State University in the federal programs of Priority 2030 and the project of the SUSU Advanced Engineering School of Engine Building and Special Equipment.
"Our university is engaged in probably all advanced scientific and engineering projects, which are being fulfilled by the Governor's team," noted SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner. "And we would like to express our huge gratitude and stress that the measures for supporting science in the Chelyabinsk Region are effective and yield results here and now!"
The Council meeting participants also considered the issues of the scientific and technological development of the Chelyabinsk Region, and the effect from the regional measures of supporting the development of collaboration between educational and scientific organizations and industrials enterprises. Along with the SUSU Rector, among the meeting participants also were the First Vice-Rector, Vice-Rector for Research Anton Korzhov, and the university's leading researchers Anna Paterova and Vladimir Zhivulin.
Support to our region's young scientists is being rendered at a quick pace: starting from 2021, 140 people have received benefits to purchase housing. A regional youth laboratory based at five universities has been created. The final stage of implementing the project of the World-class Inter-university Campus is underway: SUSU acts as the operator of the hotel complex and plans to occupy up to 70% of the scientific and research cluster to open laboratories jointly with our region's leading enterprises. Such agreements have already been signed with the Automobile Plant URAL, KONAR Industrial Group, and Chelyabinsk Forge-and-Press Plant.
