A strategic session on designing the functioning of a network of Interregional Centres for Training Specialists in Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) was held at the venue of University 2035 in Moscow. The event brought together 33 organizations, winners of the open selection within the “Personnel for Unmanned Aircraft Systems” federal project. Among those was South Ural State University — the only university representing the entire Ural Federal District.
On May 7th, on the eve of the Victory Day, the SUSU International Office jointly with volunteers and activists from the South Ural Association of International Students and Alumni (AISA) organized a “Chelyabinsk, a City of Heroes” patriotic photo-tour for international students.
A delegation of South Ural State University has returned from Ekaterinburg, where a big-scale 16th Eurasian Economics Youth Forum (EEYF) was held. Our students were not only guests, but also actively participated in the events.
Ural State University of Economics and Ekaterinburg EXPO International Exhibition Center acted as the forum venues. Guests from 117 countries participated in this forum. Students from the SUSU School of Economics and Management attended the forum not as common visitors, but as its official guests and participants.
At the end of April, a big-scale seminar on the “Information and Communication Support for University Activities: Strategies, Tools, Practice” was held at Bauman Moscow State Technical University. The event brought together more than 200 representatives of university press offices from 120 universities across 60 regions of Russia. Iuliia Sherstobitova, a staff member of the Strategic Development Department – Project Office of the Priority 2030 program, represented South Ural State University at the forum.
This story’s hero is Aleksandr Pashkeev, a veteran of the Special Military Operation, head of the local division of the “Young Guard” organization for the Leninsky District of the city of Chelyabinsk, participant of the “Heroes of the South Urals” program and student of South Ural State University. A traditional Victory Waltz dance flashmob, dedicated to the 81st Anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, has been held on the square in front of the main academic building of South Ural State University. This dance has become a visualization of the story about tenderness, hope and profound gratefulness to our Heroes.

April 27th through April 30th, Historical Science Days have been held at South Ural State University. For more than 10 years now, this event has been bringing together young History scientists, students, postgraduates, and accomplished and renowned specialists in humanities.

In Moscow, the results of the “Textbook of the Year” Annual National Award, organized by the Russian Professorial Assembly, have been announced. A research work by scientists from the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities of South Ural State University has taken the first place in the “Political Science” nomination, confirming status of SUSU as one of our country’s leading research and education centres.
Within the frameworks of their business trip to China, the delegation from South Ural State University visited Harbin Deqiang Senior High School, Kunlun Tourism College, and Harbin Cambridge No.3 High School. As part of the meetings, our university representatives delivered presentations of the SUSU academic programmes, as well as of the opportunities of studying in Russia for Chinese school students.
Just a few years ago, the word "subbotnik" (Russian term for voluntary Saturday work) evoked images of a dreary collection of leaves and garbage according to orders from someone or some organization. Today, it is a movement that is sweeping cities and villages, involving thousands of volunteers, small and large businesses, and even bloggers and artists. A striking example is the "Chistye Overiata" art-subbotnik in the Perm Territory, where children turned a pond cleanup into a true eco-festival with games and quizzes, proving that caring for nature can be fun and creative.
A meeting with a renowned philosopher, political scientist and public figure Aleksandr Dugin was held at South Ural State University. This event, part of the "Activate Values!" Youth Media Meeting brought together students, residents of Chelyabinsk, and distinguished guests.
Scientists from South Ural State University have patented a program for determining the conditions of explosives ignition in case of mechanical loads. The developed software package will help quickly assess at which conditions a material can explode, in order to enhance the control over the movement of such materials.
On April 21st, South Ural State University hosted the annual event "Nuclear Technologies: Advantages, Risks, and Safety", organized jointly with the Ministry of Public Security of the Chelyabinsk Region. This year, the meeting commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant disaster.
The event was opened by Valery Ustinov, Deputy Minister of Public Security of the Chelyabinsk Region. He greeted the students and noted the special significance of remembering those events.
On April 18th, South Ural State University announced the results of the B.N. Khristenko Interregional Financial Literacy Olympiad for Schoolchildren. The scale of this year's event broke all records: approximately 400 participants from 27 regions of our country had competed for the right to reach the finals, and the top 25 high school pupils had been solving cases at the legendary Business Games and Active Learning Laboratory that few first-year university students could handle.
SUSU scientists continue to develop new materials, combining sometimes unexpected components. This time, they have succeeded in combining glass and aluminium alloy. This alloy could serve as a thermal barrier coating for pistons of internal combustion engines, which operate under extreme conditions.
A presentation of the best practices from the "MediaImpuls. Chelyabinsk" Regional Student Media Centre of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science was held at South Ural State University as part of the "Activate Values!" Youth Media Meeting. This event became an important platform for exchanging experiences, discussing current trends in youth media, and understanding the role of values in the modern media landscape.
Within the frameworks of developing our international cooperation, the delegation from South Ural State University headed by Vice-Rector for Education Marina Potapova have paid a visit to Qingdao Huaxin Technical School in China. As part of the visit, meetings with students have been organized. Children have shown a great interest in obtaining higher education in Russia, and in particular, in enrolling in SUSU.
Olga Kovtun, Associate Professor at the Department of Theology, Culture, and Arts of South Ural State University and Doctor of Sciences (Philosophy), has published a study in the SUSU Bulletin (Social Sciences and the Humanities series) on a unique monument of church art — a shroud made for the Church of the Ascension in the city of Kasli in the 19th century.
SUSU scientists have presented a universal modular antenna capable of operating with any communication standard, from 3G to 6G. This development, supported by the Foundation for Innovations Support and the V.B. Khristenko grants program, combines the properties of a "construction kit": adding or removing layers allows the device's characteristics to be instantly modified to suit new tasks.

The 28th “Digital Signal Processing and its Applications” International Conference (DSPA-2026) has wrapped up in Moscow. The event has brought together researchers from Russia, Belarus, Vietnam, India, Turkey, the United States, and Syria, as well as industry representatives including Rosatom, Rostec, and Yandex.
While working on a grant from the Russian Science Foundation, researchers from South Ural State University have patented two databases for assessing creativity levels in children and adults. A neural network trained on data from these unique databases delivers almost instant results for the Torrance test, significantly reducing the time required for expert evaluation.

The Ecoanalytics Shared Use Centre, a laboratory opened by the Chelyabinsk Region Governor Alexey Texler in December 2023, has been functioning at South Ural State University for several years now.
The Centre includes a mobile and a stationary laboratory.
The mobile ecological post is an automated complex equipped with modern equipment—everything an ecologist needs. Its purpose is to quickly monitor the environmental conditions by measuring various pollutants in the atmosphere.
