Chelyabinsk Plant of Electrical Equipment (CHZEO) has handed over a demonstration model of an electrical installation of its own production to South Ural State University. This is an Elion cubicle switchgear, which is used for receiving and distributing of electric power at facilities of various sectors of economy: metallurgical industry, construction, housing and utilities sector, agro-industrial sphere, mining sector, and other industries.
The Elion cubicle switchgear was installed at the university laboratory as part of an agreement on the pilot operation of this unit. This equipment will help Power Engineering students of SUSU master their practical skills of working with modern electrical equipment, learn about its design specifics and principles of its functioning. The Elion cubicle switchgear has advanced characteristics and meets all the requirements to safety and reliability, what makes it an excellent teaching tool.
“Students can master the vacuum switch draw-in and draw-out, examine the general architecture of a cell, where cables are pulled and how they are connected, as well as see how the schemes of relay protection and automation are implemented, and learn about the 4Z Dispatcher system. It is a good opportunity for students to “touch” with their own hands the very equipment that they study in theory classes,” shared Operations Director of CHZEO Sergey Teleshev.
The collaboration of SUSU and CHZEO is stable and fruitful. Students of the Department of Power Stations, Grids, and Electric Power Systems take internships at this plant and also receive expert and consultation support from the CHZEO specialists when writing their qualifying diploma papers: if in 2024, with the guidance from the plant’s engineers, two students successfully defended their papers, this year there will already be 17 such projects.
In addition, our university and this industrial enterprise carry out joint research activities on developing of a cloud dispatching system with a function of predictive analytics to control facilities of electrical and thermal power engineering sectors (4Z Dispatcher). This project is being fulfilled as part of the World-class Ural Interregional Research and Education Centre (Science and Universities national project), with the support from the Ministry of Education of the Chelyabinsk Region. Handing over the demonstration model of the Elion cubicle switchgear is yet another step towards strengthening the partnership relations between SUSU and CHZEO aimed at training highly qualified personnel for the power engineering sector.
“Handing over of the modern high-voltage equipment manufactured by CHZEO LLC in order to improve the training process is a significant contribution to the development of the educational activity,” commented Associate Professor of the SUSU Department of Power Stations, Grids, and Electric Power Systems Mikhail Dziuba. “This will help Power Engineering students of SUSU gain practical skills of working, and have a responsible approach to the issues of training how to design such facilities. It is worth a lot that they can learn about not only the exterior of this equipment, but also about the reasons for this or that design solution, the conditions of safe maintenance on a real example. They will definitely remember these classes for a lifetime.”
