Nowadays, composite materials are becoming more and more popular. One of the primary composite materials for modern structures is glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP), which is commonly used in aviation, modern transport, wind power plants, etc. Scientists of South Ural State University carried out extensive studies in order to research ballistic properties of this composite material, which is to allow improving the efficiency of its use in the future.
Within the second intensive educational workshop entitled “Island 10-22” held in Moscow at Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, South Ural State University and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University concluded an agreement on establishing the first Mirror Engineering Centre (MEC).

Scientists of South Ural State University gave engineered a unique photogrammetric system for high-precision noncontact measurements of 3D coordinates, which can create 3D models of ancient cultural monuments. In particular, it is planned to use this system in an archaeological studies of Ignatievka Cave, located in the southern Ural Mountains, where cave drawings were found in 1980.
Students of the Faculty of Energy and Power Engineering at South Ural State University obtained grants for studying abroad in the frameworks of academic mobility programmes. Now they are to study in China, Slovakia, Hungary and Germany.
European Congress of Psychology took place in Moscow. For the first time in history, the Congress, which was the 16th, was held in our country. This massive and important for the world’s whole psychological community event was arranged by the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations and the Russian Psychological Society and held at Lomonosov Moscow State University.
For the first time in Russia, scientists from South Ural State University conducted an integrated experiment using the ECG T-shirt, which proved the possibility to perform simultaneous heart monitoring for several constantly moving people from any point on the planet. This will allow doctors to perform distance monitoring of patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases, as well as improve the system of athletes’ training.

The programme of Island 10-22 is coming to its end; however, the work pace still remains intensive. In the second half of the workshop, members of the SUSU team took part in operation of such laboratories as Architecture of Entrepreneurial Activity at a University; Advanced Training of Cadres; Industrial projects on data management; Digital transformation of a university, and many other. Besides, all members of the SUSU team took part in a joint project work on implementation of the university’s digital model.
Students and lecturers from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication of the Faculty of Journalism at SUSU ISSH have successfully completed their study at the International Summer Academy of Mass Media at the Aristotle University in the city of Thessaloniki (Greece). International Summer Academy of Mass Media is an educational forum designated to study new tendencies in mass media and journalism. This year, Thessaloniki brought together 42 attendees from Italy, Russia, Germany, USA, China and Turkey.
Master's studies is the final stage in obtaining higher professional education. And at this point, Master's students can choose to either get advanced knowledge in their speciality, or take training in a completely different field. Master's studies are fundamental for further scientific or managerial activities. For holders of a Master's degree it is easier to get a prestigious job and build a career. Moreover, a Master's degree is mandatory for those planning on enrolling into postgraduate studies, doing research or teaching.
This year, students of South Ural State University undertake internship at NPO Elektromashina. In the future, they are to become technology engineers and constructors.
Students got allocated at the enterprise depending on their year of study and specificity of the internship. The major part got assigned for the Engineering Centre, Programming Centre, Department of Life Support Systems, Departments of Electric Drives and Security Systems, etc. Six students – the soon-to-be technology engineers – got assigned to assist specialists of the Chief Technology Engineer’s unit.
On July 27 at 12:00, a meeting of South Ural State University Rector Aleksandr Shestakov with university applicants and their parents is to be held. Within the activity called “An Hour with the Rector”, they are going to learn about the possibilities for self-fulfillment of SUSU students and will be able to ask questions of interest regarding the admissions and studying in one of the leading universities of Russia.
The World Summer Universiade finished in Italian city of Napoli. National Team Russia included seven athletes from the Chelyabinsk region, including a student of the Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service at South Ural State University, Anton Bulaev.
More than eight thousand athletes from 150 countries took part in the 30th Summer Universiade. They competed for 222 sets of awards in 18 sports.
More and more international students choose SUSU to pursue their higher education. In the 2018-2019 academic year, SUSU was home for over 2000 international students from 52 countries. Most of them are from China, Egypt, Iraq, Kazakstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. Every year SUSU expands its geography and recruits international students from new countries. For example, this year we expect new coming students from Canada, Haiti, Mali, and Burkino Faso.
The team of executives and young researchers of SUSU keeps mastering innovative educational and managerial competencies in the course of “Island 10-22” intense educational workshop. The motto of the Island is “Thinking from the Future!” Based on this motto, new ideas get formed and the ways of their implementation get proposed. The SUSU team is fully engaged in operation of the Island and takes an active part in scientific and social experiments.
July 10th through 22nd, the team of SUSU led by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Andrey Shmidt, is taking part in an intensive educational workshop called “Island 10 – 22”. The educational workshop is held at Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology. The main purpose of the “Island” is to form and develop teams of regional universities which will be able to bring system changes in the sphere of training of cadres for technological development into reality.
