Symphony Orchestra of Magnitogorsk Opera and Ballet Theatre will perform at the Activity Hall of South Ural State University on September 26. The Orchestra has opened the new Student Philharmonic season for the university administrative and academic staff, and students.
The Orchestra team’s concert and touring activity is eventful. It participates in the annual International Festival of Opera Art "Viva Opera", "Operetta, bravo!" All-Russian Festival, classical music festivals named after Elena Obraztsova, and the Festival "Denis Matsuev predstavlyaet".
On September 26, the Symphony Orchestra performed on the South Ural State University main stage. The guests from Magnitogorsk were addressed with a welcoming speech by the SUSU Rector Aleksandr Shestakov.
“Today we are traditionally opening our Philharmonic season with classical symphonic music. Many eminent groups performed on this stage, and famous singers sang. Today we are pleased to host the wonderful team of Symphony Orchestra of Magnitogorsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, which is one of the best teams in our country. It is very pleasant that this team lives and works in our region. Engineers, mathematicians, and economists need art as much as their professional subjects.”
The Student Philharmonic has been introducing students and teachers to eternal and high art for several decades now. The Philharmonic concerts and programs allow listeners to get acquainted with different genres of classical and modern music, and to learn more about the best composers and performers of the past and present.
“There is a wonderful tradition in our university: to open the Student Philharmonic season in the beginning of the academic year, in September. We seek to diversify the opening with different teams. I am sure that the Student Philharmonic gives a huge positive charge to our youth, allowing to get acquainted with recognized masters of art not only of our city, but also with the best musical teams touring in Chelyabinsk. The administration has always maintained and continues to maintain a high level of musical and aesthetic education of students,” says Svetlana Filipchuk, SUSU Head of Recreation Centre.
Most Symphony Orchestra musicians are laureates of prestigious international contests. The Orchestra is headed by the principal conductor of the Theatre, Eduard Nam. Since 2014, the Orchestra has been joined by conductor Sergey Vorobyov.
In partnership with the Orchestra are leading musicians of our country and the world: Luz Leskowitz, Austria; Giuseppe Nova, Italy; Vasily Shcherbakov and Andrei Korobeinikov, Moscow.
At SUSU, the Orchestra presented a program featuring the soloists of the Magnitogorsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, laureates and award winners of international competitions: Nikita Fedotov (baritone) and Olga Bogoyavlenskikh (soprano).
“We had a competitive and positive mood on the stage of the university. The audience, in turn, gave us a very warm welcome, and I enjoyed it. Today, before performing at SUSU, we managed to perform in Yuzhnouralsk. Due to the length of the working day, I was a little worried about the performance of the final difficult aria. But the standing ovation cheered us greatly,” says Nikita Fedotov.
The soloist also noted that there were good acoustics at the Activity Hall: he enjoyed the sound of the Orchestra, which did not drown the singing. Olga Bogoyavlenskikh, Nikita Fedotov’s colleague also noted the audience hospitality. According to Olga, the audience energized the soloists and helped them not to feel nervous.
“When you are on stage you feel very nervous, always trying to focus on the audience. Your performance depends on this greatly. You always try to convey your energy to the audience and get something in return. Today, I was in a great mood, because I felt the energy of the audience. We worked on this stage for the first time, and we really enjoyed it. Thank you.”
The Symphony Orchestra takes part in the most significant events and is engaged in musical-and-educational activities of the Chelyabinsk Region. Vivid concert programs of the Orchestra are very popular and loved by many thousands of listeners. One of them is Ekaterina Alekseenko, first-year student of the SUSU Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities. She attended such an event for the first time and promised to attend forthcoming symphony concerts when possible.
“I can say it was great! Soloists’ spectacular voices impressed me the most. Their songs were incredible, charming! I believe that every person in the world has to have an internal culture-based foundation. For such purpose, each of us should listen to and know classical music.”
The SUSU administrative and academic staff, and students have an opportunity to attend famous teams’ concerts from all over our country during an academic year, as part of the Student Philharmonic season. According to the university administration, this allows to broaden horizons and, of course, enjoy music.
