On September 19th, the Three Missions University Ranking, also known as the Moscow International University Ranking (MosIUR) was published. Presented there were the 1200 best universities from 79 countries, including 74 Russian higher education institutions. This year, South Ural State University was included in the list of the best higher education institutions around the world according to MosIUR for the first time; in the global rankings, SUSU was placed within the 801-900 interval, and got a position in the range of 33-39 among Russian universities.
Scientists of South Ural State University as a part of an outstanding international project have confirmed the theory of migration of native speakers of Indo-European languages from Eurasian steppe to the territory of the Indian subcontinent. The scientific team managed to find the genome of people who spoke the languages of the Indo-European family among the population living in the territory of Northern India several thousand years ago. The article was published in the highly-rated journal Science.
On September 17 at the Conference Hall of Sigma Academic Complex, the annual meeting of representatives of SUSU subdivisions with international students took place. The event was held under support of International Office and Association of International Students.

September 12th through 13th at MIREA University (Moscow), Samsung Electronics Company held the interuniversity finale of the contest of projects in the sphere of Internet of Things. Participating in the event were graduates of 2018-2019 academic year coming from 7 leading universities of Russia.

Fundamental Russian science is getting younger. The efforts by the government targeted at this yield tangible results. 36-year-old scientist from SUSU, Doctor of Sciences (Chemistry), Associate Professor Denis Vinnik with solid advantages has become the university’s leader in the number of quality publications over the last academic year (TOP 25 in SCOPUS database). For eight years already, Denis Vinnik is the Head of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Chelyabinsk region.
A scientist of South Ural State University conducted a thorough study of the Karheh dam (Khuzestan province, Ahvaz district, Hemidiye region, Iran) and processed the data obtained over the 17-year history of its operation. Unique information will become an invaluable source in the construction of new reliable dams. The study was published in the journal Studia Geotechnica et Mechanica, part of the Scopus database.

South Ural State University has entered the THE World University Rankings-2020 from the Times Higher Education Rating Agency for the first time. SUSU took position 1001+. More than 1300 universities from 92 countries around the world were evaluated.
Vitya Student Pedagogical Team (SPT) and Apelsin Student Pedagogical Team planted trees together with attendees of social rehabilitation centres of the city of Chelyabinsk.
Team Vitya visited the social rehabilitation centre of the Metallurgical district. There, team members arranged planting of trees and held a homeroom dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the tragedy in Beslan.

Scientists of South Ural State University, within the framework of the national technology initiative AutoNet (the Smart Transport project), have developed a unique intelligent system for monitoring traffic flows using artificial intelligence, which does not require specific recording equipment and can work on almost any type of camera. It is equally important that the system allows you to instantly process data received in real-time, unlike existing programs, where processing is carried out with a delay of up to 10-15 minutes.
November 14th through 16th of 2019, a large-scale forum dedicated to international students studying at higher education institutions of Russia called URAL FEST is to take place at South Ural State University (Chelyabinsk).
Researchers from South Ural State University and the N.D. Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences are studying polysulphur-nitrogen heterocycles – organic compounds which have antiviral properties and can be applied for the treatment of AIDS. Other universities involved in this collaboration include the University of Zurich (Switzerland), University College London (Great Britain), the University of North Carolina (USA), and the University of Eastern Finland (Finland).
