A master class on “Working with Web of Science Database” was held at SUSU on November 15th. The event was organized by the Office of Academic Writing, and supported by the SUSU Scientific Library.
Varvara Sosedova, Candidate of Sciences (Philology), specialist on training Clarivate Analytics customers on working with Web of Science, Journal Citation Reports, EndNote Online and InCites platforms; member of National Writing Centres Consortium, Moscow, was the expert of the master class.
The master class consisted of two parts. In the first part, the participants listened to a lecture on how to search for information and select a journal for reading and publishing on the Web of Science platform. At the end of the lecture, they worked over an algorithm of selecting a journal according to the profile of scientific research.
The second part of the master class included a lecture on creating electronic library and working with bibliography lists. The lecture was held in the electronic resource room, where the participants were practising their skills in saving necessary articles, adding their own notes to the EndNote Online library, as well as compiling bibliographic lists for publication.
In addition to the master class, the Office of Academic Writing also hosted the presentation of the InCites analytical tool, which helps to automate the collection of data about a university’s publication activity. Varvara Sosedova presented a report on the SUSU publication activity, based on the InCites data. The staff of the Information Management and Analytics Office of the Research and Innovation Services, headed by Оlga Khairullina, actively participated in the discussion of the report.
The organizers received positive feedback from the audience about the benefits of the workshop. Many participants noted high professionalism of the lecturer, easy-to-understand form of presentation, perfect combination of theoretical and practical learning, and high organization level as main advantages of the event:
