Head of the Junior Academy of Linguistics and International Communications Yulia Polyakova gave a presentation on the Academy, during which she spoke about the structure of the Academy and the specifics of working with students of the Chelyabinsk Region. She also spoke in detail about various types of events, about the work of the summer school, introduced the work plans for the academic year, noted the importance of student projects and their participation in competitions held at the Academy, and drew attention to the fact that a new interactive programme "Around the World" is held jointly with foreign students every month. The Junior Academy of Linguistics and International Communications is an ILIC supplementary education project which includes two schools: the School of International Communications, Politology, and Regional Studies; and the School of Linguistics and Translation. Studying in the Junior Academy of Linguistics and International Communications is an opportunity to gain new knowledge in modern linguistics, international relations, political science, and regional studies which have been approved by the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications, and a chance to become friends with international students and dive in to the academic world of South Ural State University – one of the leading universities in Russia. The Academy’s main task is to provide support on the career guidance and adaptation of upperclassmen with the goal of them enrolling at the SUSU Institute of Linguistics and International Communications for further education. Lessons in the Academy are free of charge and involve master classes, quests, competitions, webinars, training sessions, business games, and interactive lectures from the Institute’s leading professors.
A residential school for the Academy will operate in Miass at Gymnasium No. 26 for schoolchildren from Miass and Satka who do not have the opportunity to attend lessons twice a month at SUSU.
“We have gained a great opportunity to comprehensively develop cooperation between the School and educational institutions of the Chelyabinsk Region in the context of global changes in the Russian education system. Students will learn the specifics of each field of study at ILIC, will make an informed choice before enrolling in higher education, and get acquainted with the teaching staff. The Institute has a large number of international students from 53 countries. Useful language practice will be carried out for students both from the school and our international students. The teaching staff of the Department International Relations, Politology and Regional Studies will visit once a month to carry out sessions at Miass. Classes will be held from 14:00 to 17:00 in all fields of study, involving master classes, interactive lectures, heuristic conversation, training sessions, round tables, and discussions. The program of events of the Academy is designed for students of the 8th through 11th grades. At the end of the school year, all students will receive a certificate of participation. It was for a reason that we chose Miass as the location for the lessons of the residential school. Students of educational institutions from nearby cities of Zlatoust, Chebarkul, and Satka have the opportunity to attend classes of the Academy at Gymnasium No.26,” said Yulia Polyakova, President of the Junior Academy of Linguistics and International Communications.
“I enjoyed the event – especially how the teachers talked about their subjects. It was clear that they are passionate about their profession and want to bring in more students to share their experience. It was really interesting to get to know some of the SUSU international students,” said Polina Doskevich, student of Gymnasium No.26 of Miass sharing her impressions.
“Many international students study namely in the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications in particular,” shares Uvindu Wijiweera, President of the South Ural Association of International Students. “We have a really good relationship with the teachers – they help us, we help them. We understand that every country has its own culture, and not all of the students and applicants have the opportunity to come to a different country and personally get to know the traditions and customs of our country.”
