In September of 2019, the 4th meeting of the Asia-Oceania Sonochemical Society 2019 (AOSS-4) took place in Nanjing University of the city of Nanjing in China. The purpose of this meeting was to consider the latest accomplishments in the sphere of ultrasound and sonochemistry, and present the latest perspectives in this research area.
On Saturday, October 19th, a big-scale event will be held: the opening of the second wave of “Boiling Points” at 47 universities in Russia, one of which is South Ural State University.
The SUSU’s “Boiling Point” will be created for a community of representatives of the fields of education, science, business, non-commercial sector, and the government: businesspeople and technological entrepreneurs. Participants will also include public employees, researchers, members of social organisations and professional communities, students, theorists, and practitioners.
Every year, a reputable QS Quacquarelli Symonds ranking agency publishes rankings of the world’s top universities. In the new edition of a regional ranking, QS EECA (Emerging Europe and Central Asia), which includes 354 universities from the countries of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia, South Ural State University has taken the 128th place, having improved its last year’s standing by 7 positions.
Collaborations of Russian scientists from South Ural State University and the Institute of Organic Chemistry named after ND Zelinsky RAS develop materials for a new generation of solar cells based on organic photosensitizers. More efficient and easier to manufacture environmentally friendly devices for energy production will be obtained.
Last weekend, a meeting was held between the Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Ecology and Environment Protection Vladimir Burmatov and SUSU students at South Ural State University.
In the context of the 2019 election campaign, almost 30 SUSU students were recommended to be awarded the letters of acknowledgement. During the event, students, who are engaged in social activities, proved their worth while working as volunteers at the city polling stations.

On October 9th, the Laboratory of Experimental Archaeology of the Eurasian Studies Research and Education Centre and the SUSU Department of Russian and International History presented the EXARC grant project, “Sintashta Bow Project”, at the State Museum of South Ural History.
Maxim Gutenev, a political scientist from South Ural State University, is exploring the influence of science diplomacy as an instrument of foreign policy influence on the processes taking place in the Arctic. The project was awarded a grant from the Russian Science Foundation in the framework of the “Initiative Research by Young Scientists” competition of the Presidential Program of research projects implemented by leading scientists, including young scientists.
At the beginning of October, a group of full-time and extramural ISTS students (majoring in Tourism and Hospitality) visited the city of Kyshtym called The Ural Switzerland for its picturesque mountain landscapes and multiple lakes.
October 15 at 15:00, an Information Day arranged specifically for Chinese students is to take place at SIGMA Academic Complex. Citizens of China – attendees, students and postgraduates of all years of study – are invited to the meeting.
Selection rounds of the student art festival among freshmen are being held at South Ural State University. Students are showing their skills and fighting for the opportunity to take part in the finals on October 17 and win prizes.
Over the years, the festival has been opening a way for many talented students to various major contests. This is a sort of a launch site for putting creative ideas into life and realizing ambitions.
On October 9th, an All-Russian Economic Dictation Quiz on the topic of “Strong Economy Means Prosperous Russia!” was held at the MBA Centre of South Ural State University. Over 190 people took part in the event.
The campaign is organized by the Free Economic Society of Russia with the support from the International Union of Economists, Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Moscow Aviation Institute, and the Administration of the Russian Federation Entities.
The first Open House Day in the academic year of 2019/20 was held at the Activity Hall of South Ural State University on October 6th. More than 800 people were present at the event.
On October 1st, all universities of the Russian Federation announced new admission regulations and target figures on state-funded places for the future academic year, as well as posted the information, concerning students’ personal achievements.
In October of 2019, South Ural State University signed an agreement with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Republic of Iraq. A memorandum on mutual understanding which assumes an extension of cooperation in the spheres of higher education as well as in research, scientific-and-technical and innovative activities of Russia and Iraq has been signed. A considerable role in this belongs to the fact that the university alumni – Iraqi – actively recommend the university to soon-to-be students of their country.
On October 8th, representatives of SMS Group, Germany, held a presentation of the “SMS Data Challenge” international data analysis contest at South Ural State University.
Among the participants were fourth-year Bachelor’s students and first- and second-year Master’s students of the SUSU School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science and the Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
Head of the Data Mining and Virtualization Department of the Laboratory of Supercomputer Simulation Mikhail Tsymbler greeted the participants of the presentation.
Doctor Andrew Cundy, Professor of University of Southampton, National Oceanography Centre, United Kingdom, has paid a visit to South Ural State University. Professor Cundy, who has become a member of the SUSU International Scientific Council in 2019, had an in-person meeting with the Council Board members and scientists of one of the major universities in Russia.
The closing ceremony of the third working semester of the consolidated Student Conductors Team “Magistral” was held at Park City hotel. The results were summed up and distinguished student conductors were awarded letters of acknowledgement and certificates. Each service member was awarded a recognition letter from the Head of the Ural Branch of АО “FPK” for providing high-level services.
On the 3rd and the 4th of October, VII International Science-to-Practice Conference on Life Safety in the Third Millennium took place at South Ural State University. The event was held on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Department of Life Safety.
The Conference on Life Safety in the Third Millennium is held once per three years. Every year, participants of the Conference discuss such issues as occupational safety and safety in the agro-industrial complex. Other topics of discussion included overall environmental safety, habitat and human health.
A round table on “Knowledge of Politics: How to Obtain it, and Where Can it Be Applied?” was held at South Ural State University. The event was organized by the Department of International Relations, Politology and Regional Studies of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications, and the Council of Young Political Scientists of the Russian Political Science Association.
The Super Final of the Open International Internet-Olympiad in mathematics was held in the Ariel University in Israel. SUSU team of students defended the honour of the university and added new victories to the university's collection.
Dmitriy Gordievskih (ЕТ-122) was awarded a gold medal in an individual Olympiad. This happened for the first time since 2011 when SUSU started to participate in the super finals of this prestigious intellectual competition.
South Ural State University was visited by a delegation of the University of Maribor, Slovenia in order to discuss cooperation perspectives in the field of international activity development.
Associate Professor at the Department of Linguistics and Translation of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications, Marina Chernysheva, took part in preparing a teacher manual entitled “La classe inverse”, elaborated under supervision of PhD Cynthia Eid (France), Vice-President of the International Federation of French Teachers (FIPF), advisor for GROUPE IGS higher education affairs (Paris).
A new educational software package has been developed and patented by SUSU (ECM Certificate No.2019613711) to train highly-qualified military communications specialists. There are no analogues to this software in Russia. The program is designed to train radio operators to receive messages in Morse code.
A team of ecologists, journalists and philosophers of South Ural State University is working on a cross-discipline project on changing the sets and patterns of public conscience and thinking of mass consumers with regard to an ecological aspect.
The deterioration of the state of the environment and natural resources, as well as specific ecological problems in the regions across Russia have become the very factors, which point out the necessity to search for a new way of protecting the environment and the future of the humanity.
