South Ural State University was visited by a delegation of the University of Maribor, Slovenia in order to discuss cooperation perspectives in the field of international activity development.
The delegation included Dean of the Faculty of Law of University of Maribor Vesna Rijavec, Professor of the Department of Civil, International Private and Comparative Law of the Faculty of Law Tjaša Ivanc, Professor of the Department of Constitutional, Administrative, and Financial Law of the Faculty of Law Aleš Kobal, and Senior Research Fellow of the Faculty of Law Marius Cocou Mensah.
Within the framework of the visit, the delegation met with Director of the Institute of Law Elena Titova, Head of the International Research Collaboration Tatiana Subbotina, Deputy Director for International Activity of the Institute of Law Elizaveta Gromova, Deputy Director for Science of the Institute of Law Tikhon Podshivalov, staff member of the International Office Anastasia Kuzminykh, and Head of International Relations and Development Julia Shmotina.
During the meeting, several agreements were made on possible forms of collaboration: joint research activities within the framework of the leading projects of the SUSU Institute of Law, employment of members of the academic staff of the Faculty of Law of University of Maribor at the departments of the Institute of Law, participation in international and European grants to expand international activity boundaries, including the participation of academic staff and students in the programs of academic student and staff mobility.
“Visits of international delegations are extremely important for the Institute of Law. Within the framework of such meetings, the strategic tasks in the field of international activity development are solved by both parties. In particular, during today's meeting we discussed the issues of signing a memorandum of collaboration between our institutes, participation in Erasmus+ joint program for academic student and staff mobility, participation of the Institute of Law students in a Digital School of Law organized by the Faculty of Law of University of Maribor,” said Elena Titova, Director of the Institute of Law. “Besides, our international colleagues expressed interest in participating in the Institute of Law research project “LegalTech: Legal Regulation of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Digitalization of Law and Creation of Smart Law for Smart Industry”, and a project in the field of environmental law. In this context, agreements were made about joint publication of articles on the subject in highly ranked journals, as well as employment of international academic staff in the departments of the SUSU Institute of Law.”
On their part, the University of Maribor staff members talked about cooperation with European universities and suggested combining the work with them and their grant partners. The delegation spoke about academic programmes for international students taught in English, and offered to publish students’ works in their scientific journals, which are indexed in Global Science, as well as to conduct joint research activities with teachers and students. Besides, the university is interested in creating state-funded places for Russian students and is ready to seek financing funds along with SUSU.
“We are really happy to collaborate with your university. Today we are here to decide in which areas we can work together,” said Marius Cocou Mensah, Senior Research Fellow of the Faculty of Law of University of Maribor. “Our university is a centre of research in Europe, we work with different partners on different projects financed by the European Union, but we want to attract partners outside the EС. We have joint topical issues to work on together with SUSU: digitalization and ecology. To participate in grants and projects, we need real, high-quality partners, whom we can always rely on – then we will all be successful.”
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed on further development of international collaboration in the field of educational and research activities, organization of joint events, and participation of academic staff and students of the SUSU Institute of Law and the Faculty of Law of University of Maribor, as well as publications of works by the academic staff and students of the SUSU Institute of Law in the University of Maribor highly ranked journals.
The guests were taken on a tour around the university, the building where law students train, a crime scene simulation house, and the supercomputer laboratory. At the end of the meeting, delegations exchanged gifts: the delegation from Slovenia was presented with souvenirs with pieces of the famous Chelyabinsk meteorite, and the Dean of the Faculty of Law of University of Maribor invited SUSU staff to celebrate the University’s 60th anniversary next year.
