On September 7, the Day of the City of Chelyabinsk, South Ural State University tool part in the Parade of First graders held in the Central Park of Culture and Recreation named after Y.A. Gagarin. The large-scale event arranged by Intersvyaz company was held for the 7th time. SUSU presented 12 interactive venues for children where they could learn about the most in-demand professions.
Three teams of young engineers supervised by scientists from South Ural State University and instructors of the Chelyabinsk Quantorium passed the preliminary stage in the frameworks of participation in the international contest called Quantoriada or ICCET 2019. Attendees of Quantorium that has been created at SUSU proposed their unique solutions of problems in the spheres of Smart Power Engineering, Aerotaxi, and Cableway.
South Ural State University is continuing to successfully develop partnerships with Chinese universities. The Ministry of Education of China has proposed to establish novel joint educational organizations of a new format within their country. They will involve development of academic programs with Russia. This is why our colleagues from China are interested in making contacts with Russian universities and in establishing new, promising academic contacts with SUSU.
87 students from People’s Republic of China who have completed SUSU’s Russian Language Summer School started studying at South Ural State University. The period of advanced language learning lasted for one month, after which all the students successfully passed the exam and have been admitted to study highly-demanded majors in engineering, architecture and construction.
Students of South Ural State University have successfully passed selective stages of the 12th International Olympiad in the sphere of information technology IT-Planet 2018/19. Now they are to take part in the final which is to be held within the period from October 4th through 7th in Moscow at MISIS National University of Science and Technology.
Chelyabinsk is getting ready for the main sport event of this fall: All-Russian Festival called All-Russian Physical Education and Sport Complex “Ready for Labor and Defense”, which is to take place on September 19th through 24th at the track and field complex named after E. Elesina. One of the participants competing for the top prizes will be the Ural Hawk team consisting of South Ural State University students.
On the occasion of the Knowledge Day, South Ural State University opened new laboratories: Financial Technology in Business, and Teaching Bank. The new educational spaces of the SUSU School of Economics and Management are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and aim at students’ mastering economic competences in an interactive mode.
As of today, the SUSU Institute of Supplementary Education has elaborated and offers over 1,000 author-developed educational programmes of advanced training and professional retraining for top managers, specialists, as well as different categories of individuals. The developed programmes cover all the licensed fields of education of a classical university.
Every year many students from around the world come to South Ural State University. Iraq, Iran, Bangladesh, Egypt, Sri Lanka, to mention just a few countries from the list.
This year, we expect more than 700 students from 52 countries; those are the enrolees who applied for studies in various levels of education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, postgraduate, Specialist programmes, and programmes of the Faculty of Pre-University Education. Many students come as part of the international exchange programmes.

Scientists of South Ural State University have developed a composite sorbent for the extraction of heavy metals from wastewater. The unique sorbent not only purifies but also increases its pH.
On August 29-30, South Ural State University hosted a master class entitled “Academic Writing Centre: Forming English Language Competencies to Increase the Publication Activity of Russian Researchers” in the Sigma conference hall.
South Ural State University is to join the University Alliance of the Silk Road (UASR). SUSU’s joining the Alliance is to take place in September in the frameworks of UASR-2019 events in the city of Xi’an. This step will bring the development of the university’s international relations with higher education institutions of China to a new level.
September 19th through 20th, QS WORLDWIDE-2019 Summit is to take place in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (Almaty, Kazakhstan). Rector of South Ural State University, Aleksandr Shestakov, is going to take part in the event.
QS WORLDWIDE is a leading annual conference which regards the issues of higher education and brings together international academicians, professors and government representatives from all over the Central Asia as well as from other countries.
South Ural State University scientists managed to create a virtual model of a multicomponent liquid crystal mixture for the first time. It shows the relationship of the physical properties of liquid crystals with their structure at the microscopic level. The obtained results will allow to create liquid crystals with the required properties in the future, which is of significant importance for their use in medicine and technology. The study was published in the highly rated Journal of Molecular Liquids (Scopus, Q1).
On August 31st, an “Art Needs Walls” modern culture festival was held at South Ural State University as part of the festivities dedicated to the Knowledge Day.
This festival represents a new-for-Chelyabinsk format, which aims at supporting the creative initiatives of students. The idea of holding this event was supported by the Department for Youth Affairs of the City of Chelyabinsk and the Chelyabinsk Region Ministry of Education, and was executed thanks to the SUSU Trade Union Committee.
On August 31st, right before the Knowledge Day, South Ural State University presented its upgraded infrastructure. This day, the laboratories of B.N. Khristenko Complex of Active Teaching Methods were opened. President of the Business Council of the Eurasian Economic Union, Chairman of the SUSU Supervisory Council Viktor Khristenko took part in the festive events. An important event was also the presentation of the university’s improved indoor athletic stadium.
On August 31, South Ural State University was visited by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Tatiana Golikova, and Acting Governor of the Chelyabinsk region, Aleksey Teksler. The visitors handed student tickets to the best freshman students and discussed the role of SUSU in the global learning environment.
Scientists of the South Ural State University have developed a unique control system for the electric drive of the pump unit, which will significantly reduce energy costs and increase the reliability of the equipment of thermal power plants. Development is patented.
An open lecture on the topic of Metaphysics of Authority in the Southern Urals is to be held in the main building of South Ural State University. The speaker will be Professor at the ILIC Department of International Relations, Politology and Regional Studies, Ekaterina Prilukova.
SUSU Online is official mobile application for students and administrative staff of South Ural State University. This mobile app is a module of the Unvieris Corporate Information Analytical System and has been developed at Computation Centre of SUSU’s Informatization Management Office.

The Train of Friendship has arrived to its destination. The week-long journey with a special crew of conductors started in Chelyabinsk and finished in Adler. Conductors were recruits of Russian Student Unions from the Ural Federal District and the Volga Federal District.
On August 31st, a series of festivities dedicated to the Knowledge Day will be held at South Ural State University. The events will include the 2019 Matriculation Ceremony.
At 10:00, the SUSU Education and Sports Complex will open its renovated indoor athletic stadium. Here, unique works have been performed on creating of a race track with special coating, which complies with the Olympic standards, and the climbing wall’s area has been expanded.
