A seminar by the country’s leading methodologist in the area of accounting, Igor Sukharev, and director of the National Nongovernmental Accounting Regulator, the Accounting Methodology Center, Oksana Sukhareva, was held at SUSU. These two are the developers of the leading standards for accounting of fixed assets, inventory, and intangible assets.
From October 6th through 27th, the SUSU OkNo Gallery of Modern Art will be presenting projects by Olga Grazhdankina and Pavel Pakharukov, “Meaning and Intention: Contamination” (graphics, ceramics, and installations).
October 10th-12th at SUSU the first meeting of the International Science Council (ISC) was held. The goal of this council is to coordinate the university’s research and academic activity with the best world practices. This is one of the most important initiatives for realization of the university’s Road Map program in the 5-100 Project.
Head of the laboratory of crystal growth at the Nanotechnology research center, assistant professor of the Department of Materials Sciences and Materials Physical Chemistry, and chairman of the Society of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Chelyabinsk Oblast, Denis Vinnik, was named SUSU’s most cited author in September 2016 according to the professional scientific social network www.researchgate.net.
On Tuesday, September 27th, South Ural State University attended a delegation for the company Emerson, a leader in the area of system automation in industry and a long-time strategic partner to the university. As part of this business meeting, representatives of the company discussed directions for collaboration with the university.
September 23rd-25th at the SUSU “Science” Recreation Center the 1st International Practical Science Conference, “Dialogue of Eurasian Cultures” was held. Organizers for the conference included the Pushkin Institute methodological and academic center and the Russian as a Foreign Language department of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communication (ILIC).
An order from the Russian Ministry of Education and Science confirmed the recipients of the Russian Federation Presidential and Government Scholarships for the 2016/2017 academic year. The financial awards are given for outstanding abilities in academic and scientific work (winners of Olympiads, artistic competitions, authors of scientific breakthroughs, two or more inventions, scientific articles in central publications).
From September 13th through 16th in Liverpool (Great Britain) the 28th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the European Association of International Education was held. This is the main European venue that gathers experts in the area of higher education from all around the world. South Ural State University was presented at a combined booth for Russian universities participating in the 5-100 Project.
In the beginning of September, project 8.1.3, Implementation of a System of Deeper Language Training in Bachelor's Programs, started as part of the 5-100 Project (project initiator – Elena Yaroslavova, project curator – Viktor Katochkov, portfolio director – Liudmila Shestakova.)
International conference “The Future of the Eurasian Space” was held on September 8th at South Ural State University. The government of Chelyabinsk Oblast, Fund for Socio-economic Development “Eurasian Community”, South Ural State University, and the M. Osimi Tajik Technical University participated as organizers of the event.
Experts from Russia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and representatives of expatriates of the Central Asian region in the South Urals and in the Khanty-Mansisk autonomous region participated in the international conference.
Annual ratings of universities by the V. Potanin Charitable Fund have been published once again. The rating was compiled over the last 12 years at the conclusion of the Fund's academic programs for students and professors and is one of the leading independent ratings of the quality of higher education in Russia.
South Ural State University notably improved its indicators and took the 29th position this year (last year the university was in 42nd place).
Representatives of the leadership of the joint-stock company “N.A. Semikhatov Industrial Scientific Association of Automation Engineers” (Yekaterinburg) visited SUSU to discuss the possibility of cooperation.
Guests were lead on an excursion around the university by SUSU rector Aleksandr Shestakov and laboratory employees.
The School of Russian Language and Culture for German students from the Mining Academy in Freiburg has opened at South Ural State University.
The first thing that struck students was SUSU’s size and the number of people on campus, which is larger than the population of Freiburg. The students were already able to visit the railroad technologies museum and the skating rink at the Uralskaya Molnia sports complex, and got a bird’s eye view of Yekaterinburg.
The “Student” academic sport complex at SUSU’s Miass branch opened in 2010 but was disregarded. Gyms, showers, and changing rooms operated at the sports palace, but for six years it was the only enclosed arena in Miass remained unfinished. This academic year, students will already be able to play basketball, volleyball, handball, and mini-soccer in the new gym.
The supermodern, one-of-a-kind in Russia laboratory complex of the Rocket-building scientific research center consists of eight laboratories; seven of them are located at the Miass branch of SUSU and one of them, the Laboratory of Computer-Aided Design of Military and Space Rocket Systems, at the Makeev State Rocket Center. Young researchers have access to multimedia and interactive resources, a computing center, testing benches, trainers, and much more.
A switch is beginning at SUSU to a system of effective contracts. Before September 1st 2016, employees will sign work contracts which take the contributions of each member of the collective in achieving the university’s strategic goals into mind.
A round table will be held at the South Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry on August 29th, 2016, entitled “Safety of the Central Asian Region: Issues and Ways to Solve Them”.

On August 30th a presentation of the analytical report entitled “The Concept of Eurasianism: Then and Now” will be held at the South Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry. At the end of July 2016 the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities was released once more, published by the leading Spanish research group, Cybermetrics Lab. The rating measures how a particular university is represented in the global internet space. The number of Project 5-100 participating universities in the published ratings has increased once again. In July 2015, only 3 participating universities were in the top 100, in January 2016 - 4, and in July – 5. The best indicator was shown by the Higher School of Economics, taking 711th place.
A field training seminar was held at the SUSU “Science” camp as part of Project 5-100 in which university staff presented their projects to rector Aleksandr Shestakov.
Head scientist of the laboratory for inflammation immunology of the Institute of Immunology and Physiology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of the RAS-SUSU Laboratory of Molecular Genetics, Aleksandr Zurochka, told the newspaper South Ural Panorama about the new development.
Quacquarelli Symonds, a respected British company that specializes in education abroad, carried out a rating of universities of BRICS countries. Compilers analyzed the achievements of 250 best universities from the five countries that have a significant influence in the region. This list included 55 Russian universities, including South Ural State University.
On the 20th of July 22, 2016 the delegation from China visited “Aerospace technologies” Scientific and Educational Center. The delegation consisted of the Director General of Haian Haitai Casting Co Tszin Tszunkan and Deputy Director Van Chzhisiang.
Within the All-Russian competition, Patriots of Russia, SUSU was visited by the director of the International Press Club, doctor of political sciences, professor Aleksandr Chumikov.
Aleksandr Nikolaevich met with the university rector, Aleksandr Shestakov, and dean of the faculty of journalism, Lyudmila Shesterkina. As part of the visit, they told the guest from the capital about the reorganization of the university and discussed the upcoming final of the Patriots of Russia contest.
