World’s Leading Scientists Hold Lectures for SUSU Students

October 10th-12th at SUSU the first meeting of the International Science Council (ISC) was held. The goal of this council is to coordinate the university’s research and academic activity with the best world practices. This is one of the most important initiatives for realization of the university’s Road Map program in the 5-100 Project.

The SUSU International Research Council is made up of the world’s leading researchers who have a colossal amount of experience in fundamental and computer sciences, engineering, and medicine: Dr. Thomas Ludwig, Dr. Earl H. Dowell, Dr. Ashokkumar Muthupandian, Dr. Panayotis Koutentis, Dr. Jack Dongarra, Dr. Santiago García-Granda, Dr. Ron de Kloet, Dr. María Josefa Yzuel, Dr. Jaewan Kim, Dr. Mohammed Milad, and president of the Emerson Corporation, Edward L. Monser.

Members of the ISC lead internal evaluations of the university’s work and offer their cooperation in determining the leading areas of development at SUSU for 2018-2020. In addition, while visiting the university, the international researchers offer lectures in the topics of their research.

Doctor Jay-won Kim (Korean Institute for Advanced Study, Seoul; area of work – quantum computing; Hirsch index – 16) discussed new tendencies in the area of quantum computing; doctor Ron de Klo (Leiden University; area of work – biomedicine; Hirsch index – 90) presented his lecture “Biomarkers of stress: the path from adaptation to illness; doctor Panaiotis Kotentis (University of Cyprus; area of work – organic chemistry; Hirsch index – 21) discussed current tendencies in the areas of organic chemistry and polymers; doctor Maria Josefa Yuzuel (Autonomous University of Barcelona; area of work – optics; Hirsch index – 22) presented her lecture – “The Use of Hydrocrystal Panels in Diffraction Optics”; doctor Ashokkumar Mutapandian (University of Melbourne; area of work – physical chemistry; Hirsch index – 34) shared with the audience data from the newest research in the field of sonochemistry.

Two more members of the International Council – Dr. Jack Dongarra (University of Tennessee; area of work – supercomputing; Hirsch index – 45) and Dr. Earl Dowell (Duke University; area of work – aerospace engineering; Hirsch index – 45) will be participating in the council’s events by video conference.

The work of the International Science Council will not only enable higher-quality research and academic projects at the university, it will also allow for successful integration with the international academic community.
