Like in the Times of King Solomon. SUSU Scientists Bake Barley Bread

A method for making bread from sprouted barley has been patented by researchers from the SUSU School of Medical Biology. Barley (commonly known as pearl barley) is considered the oldest cultivated plant and is even mentioned in the Bible. Bread obtained at the university has high antioxidant activity and is baked thirty minutes faster. 

"You Are Our Support": Schoolchildren and Students Were Helped to Decide on Their Future Jobs

On October 16th, as part of the Employers Assembly at SUSU, meetings, master classes and business games were held with representatives of 60 enterprises from all over our country. 

At the Assembly, company representatives gave presentations of their organizations and talked about the benefits, prospects and career growth opportunities for their employees. 

SUSU International Students Took Part in All-Russian Forum

The All-Russian forum Yugra International 2024 wrapped up at Nizhnevartovsk State University. The event brought together 100 students, including 70 international students obtaining their education at Russian universities. 

South Ural State University, with the support of the International Office, was represented by 5 international students from Peru, India, Bangladesh, and China. 

SUSU Postgraduate Became a Prize-Winner in the BRICS Future Skills & Tech Challenge

The final of the BRICS Future Skills & Tech Challenge (international championship in promising technologies and skills) was held at Kazan Vocational School of Information Technology and Communications September 22nd through September 27th. Ekaterina Urbakh, a postgraduate student majoring in Electrotechnical Complexes and Systems from South Ural State University, represented the Chelyabinsk Region in the contest as a teacher of the Smena educational complex; her team took the second place in the Internet of Things category.

Extended Meeting of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Chelyabinsk Region Held at SUSU

On October 15th, an extended meeting of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Chelyabinsk Region was held in the conference room of the University Council of South Ural State University. The event was chaired by the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler and the Chairman of the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education of the Russian Federation Presidential Council for Science and Education, an employee of the Kurchatov Institute Nikita Marchenkov. The SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner moderated the meeting. 

What Did School Kids Present in their Projects at the 2024 Children’s Ecological Forum?

On day one of the All-Russian Children’s Ecological Forum, the participants met at a science-to-practice conference to present their projects.

Among the participants of the science-to-practice conference were 3500 school pupils of the 5th–11th forms. They defended around 200 reports. As part of the Children’s Ecological Forum, such a conference gives an opportunity to exchange experience, meet fellow-thinkers and compete for the victory in 18 categories. Winners receive support for the fulfilment of their ecological projects.

Student of the Institute of Law Wins in an International Conference

Student of the SUSU Institute of Law Mariia Chikulaeva has been awarded the first place among students in the articles contest of the World of Law International Science-to-practice Conference dedicated to the memory of Doctor of Sciences (Law), Professor B.B. Cherepakhin.

The event took place on October 4, 2024 and was organised within the framework of the Private Law without Borders Youth Civil Forum at V.F. Yakovlev Ural State Law University.

SUSU and the State Housing Inspectorate Join Efforts to Train Young Specialists

Director of the Institute of Law of South Ural State University Elena Titova and Head of the Main Directorate of the State Housing Inspectorate of the Chelyabinsk Region Rashida Kovaleva signed a cooperation agreement on October 9th.

The State Housing Inspectorate of the Chelyabinsk Region is an executive body that carries out activities aimed at preventing, identifying and suppressing violations of the use and safety of the housing stock.

On October 10th, the Communication Leader of the 21st Century All-Russia Youth Mediaforum started at the SUSU Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities. Among its participants are young specialists defining the future on the media sphere in our country. Director of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities, Professor, Doctor of Sciences (Philology), Associate Professor Lidiya Lobodenko opened the mediaforum.

"Heart of the Urals" Advanced Engineering School and Ural Diesel Engine Plant Join Efforts for Industrial Engines Import Substitution

In the context of global economic challenges, South Ural State University jointly with Ural Diesel Engine Plant (UDMZ) are working on an ambitious project to engineer gas piston engines for industrial needs. This project, being implemented within the framework of the "Heart of the Urals" Advanced Engineering School of Engine Building and Special Equipment, is aimed at creating domestic technologies capable of replacing imported analogues. The team of developers has already begun manufacturing prototypes of the system components, which will be tested on laboratory benches.

Towards the 80th Anniversary of the Victory: SUSU Opens Exhibition of Archive Photos Taken in the Rear during the Wartime

On October 8th, an exhibition of unique archive photos “Liberation. Path towards the Victory. The Rear” opened in the hall of the third floor in the main building of South Ural State University. Among the authors of the photos are legendary photojournalists of the Soviet Information Bureau: Ivan Shagin, Aleksandr Ustinov, and Yakov Khalip. The exhibition is organized by Rossiya Segodnya international media group, with the support from the Presidential Grants Fund.

SUSU Employee Created a Program for 3D Inspection of Substandard Housing

Master’s degree student of the Department of Applied Mathematics majoring in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, employee of the SUSU Research and Innovation Services Maksim Zolotukhin, as part of the Intelligent Production general project based on virtual reality technologies, developed a unique program for 3D inspection of substandard housing. The program is designed for the housing and communal services sector and is intended to be used for inspection of premises for the purpose of assigning them the status of “substandard”.

First-year Students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Technology Got Acquainted with KONAR Company

The new faculty, created this year at South Ural State University, received a name historical for the university – "Mechanical Engineering and Technology". Its initiator and creator was the KONAR industrial group.

The students have already become acquainted with the enterprises of the leading Russian mechanical engineering holding, visited production sites and listened to an introductory lecture by the Dean, Executive Director of the company's Research and Technology Centre Dmitry Polukhin.

SUSU Archaeologists Participated in Studying the Kesene Burial Complex

This year, as part of the “In the Tamerlane’s Valley” project (application number 24-2-002168, being implemented with the support from the Presidential Grants Fund and RSF grant No. 24-18-20055), a research study of two mounds has been conducted in the territory of “The Kesene Burial Complex” cultural heritage site of federal importance in the Varnensky District of the Chelyabinsk Region.

Nadezhda Matsenko is an art lecturer, artist, researcher of the viewer's experience, and author of the course on the "Living Artists". The topic of her lecture, which took place on October 3rd, was "Pushkin as an Artist".

What Russian national food do you prefer? 

Russia has plenty of delicious traditional dishes to try. I'm often surprised at the variety and flavors of Russian cuisine, which are influenced by Russia's connections to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The most classic Russian recipes are made of veggies and wheat, such as soups, porridges, and stuffed dough. I like Borscht with a dollop of fresh sour cream on top. Also, Pelmeni, Blini, Beef Stroganoff, and Paskha are my favorite foods in Russia.

SUSU Wins a Rossotrudnichestvo Grant for Training on Innovative Methods of Teaching the Russian Language

This year, Rossotrudnichestvo agency jointly with South Ural State University launch the implementation of a big-scale program on advanced training for Chinese teachers of the Russian Language as part of the grant on the “Innovative Methods of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language in China”.

SUSU Student Teaches AI to Evaluate Hockey Players' Efficiency

Student of the Department of System Programming of the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science Mikhail Medvedev has created the first in Russia machine learning model for evaluating the skill level of hockey players. In his work, Mikhail used statistical data not only of the Kontinental Hockey League, but also of other Russian (All-Russian Hockey League, Junior Hockey League) and world leagues (National Hockey League, American Hockey League).
