A method for making bread from sprouted barley has been patented by researchers from the SUSU School of Medical Biology. Barley (commonly known as pearl barley) is considered the oldest cultivated plant and is even mentioned in the Bible. Bread obtained at the university has high antioxidant activity and is baked thirty minutes faster.
On October 16th, as part of the Employers Assembly at SUSU, meetings, master classes and business games were held with representatives of 60 enterprises from all over our country.

Ekaterina Urbakh, a postgraduate student majoring in Electrotechnical Complexes and Systems from South Ural State University, represented the Chelyabinsk Region in the contest as a teacher of the Smena educational complex; her team took the second place in the Internet of Things category.
On October 15th, an extended meeting of the Council of Young Scientists and Specialists of the Chelyabinsk Region was held in the conference room of the University Council of South Ural State University. The event was chaired by the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler and the Chairman of the Coordination Council for Youth Affairs in Science and Education of the Russian Federation Presidential Council for Science and Education, an employee of the Kurchatov Institute Nikita Marchenkov. The SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner moderated the meeting.
On day one of the All-Russian Children’s Ecological Forum, the participants met at a science-to-practice conference to present their projects.
Among the participants of the science-to-practice conference were 3500 school pupils of the 5th–11th forms. They defended around 200 reports. As part of the Children’s Ecological Forum, such a conference gives an opportunity to exchange experience, meet fellow-thinkers and compete for the victory in 18 categories. Winners receive support for the fulfilment of their ecological projects.

South Ural State University (SUSU) and Shenyang Institute of Technology (SIT) have many years of experience in implementing joint projects. This year, rectors of the two universities have opened a joint student training program and a new laboratory. Irina Potoroko, Director of the SUSU School of Medical Biology, tells us more about this.
In the context of global economic challenges, South Ural State University jointly with Ural Diesel Engine Plant (UDMZ) are working on an ambitious project to engineer gas piston engines for industrial needs. This project, being implemented within the framework of the "Heart of the Urals" Advanced Engineering School of Engine Building and Special Equipment, is aimed at creating domestic technologies capable of replacing imported analogues. The team of developers has already begun manufacturing prototypes of the system components, which will be tested on laboratory benches.
On October 8th, an exhibition of unique archive photos “Liberation. Path towards the Victory. The Rear” opened in the hall of the third floor in the main building of South Ural State University. Among the authors of the photos are legendary photojournalists of the Soviet Information Bureau: Ivan Shagin, Aleksandr Ustinov, and Yakov Khalip. The exhibition is organized by Rossiya Segodnya international media group, with the support from the Presidential Grants Fund.
Master’s degree student of the Department of Applied Mathematics majoring in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, employee of the SUSU Research and Innovation Services Maksim Zolotukhin, as part of the Intelligent Production general project based on virtual reality technologies, developed a unique program for 3D inspection of substandard housing. The program is designed for the housing and communal services sector and is intended to be used for inspection of premises for the purpose of assigning them the status of “substandard”.
The new faculty, created this year at South Ural State University, received a name historical for the university – "Mechanical Engineering and Technology". Its initiator and creator was the KONAR industrial group.

I'm often surprised at the variety and flavors of Russian cuisine, which are influenced by Russia's connections to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The most classic Russian recipes are made of veggies and wheat, such as soups, porridges, and stuffed dough. I like Borscht with a dollop of fresh sour cream on top. Also, Pelmeni, Blini, Beef Stroganoff, and Paskha are my favorite foods in Russia.

Student of the Department of System Programming of the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science Mikhail Medvedev has created the first in Russia machine learning model for evaluating the skill level of hockey players. In his work, Mikhail used statistical data not only of the Kontinental Hockey League, but also of other Russian (All-Russian Hockey League, Junior Hockey League) and world leagues (National Hockey League, American Hockey League).
