A New Year’s charity football match, the goal of which is to popularize a healthy life style and to raise funds for presents for children from low-income families with many children, has been held at the Tsentralny Stadium.

On December 22th, a meeting was held at South Ural State University, where the problems of the BRICS countries and issues of their interaction with international partners were discussed. The meeting involved three committees, who considered international cooperation in health care, education and economy, the impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic on these fields, and future prospects.

Natalia Shlemova, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences, and Humanities of South Ural State University was a speaker at the “Mentoring as a Resource for Success” forum, organized by the Regional Centre for Continuing Education for Children. Scientists of South Ural State University, based on their research, have developed and patented new austenitic corrosion-resistant steel with nitrogen. The study was published in the highly-rated scientific journal Ferrous Metals (second quartile).
Last week, the online closing ceremony of the City of Kind Hearts project took place. The organizers summed up the results of the event, in which over 450 volunteers from our city took part during one and a half month. The Multidiscipline College of South Ural State University celebrates its 45th birthday in December.
The history of the Multidiscipline College began in 1975, when the Technical Vocational School No. 109 was created to train workers for the system of consumer services for the population of the Chelyabinsk Region by order of the Chelyabinsk Regional Department of Vocational Education. The opening of the school took place in December 1975.

Molecularly imprinted polymers, which have been created with the participation of a SUSU scientist, have become a base for a unique sensor detecting banned substances in wastewater. Police forces in European countries, where the problem of drugs production is particularly acute, have shown interest in this development.
The study of complex oxides of iron and using them to create new functional materials is one of the most intensely developing fields of investigation for SUSU scientists. In this new study, the specialists chose to investigate spinel-structured ferrites, changing their magnetic properties through modification of the chemical composition—by substituting the iron ions. The results of their research were published in the highly-rated journal Nanomaterials (Q1).
The Association of International Students was founded on December 23, 2013. The main goal of the AIS is to help international students adapt, help them solve issues related to their studies, accommodation, and entertainment, and introduce them to the Russian culture. The activities of the AIS support the development of intercultural communication and personal growth of each student.

There is a connection of the South Ural region to the formation of many peoples. However, every year new evidence is found that ancient Hungarians lived in this territory. The studies of the bones from a burial ground in the South Ural region, and comparing the revealed haplotypes to those of the ancient Hungarians have served as the confirmation to this theory.

A SUSU archaeologist studied burial mounds (known as kurgans in Russian) with “moustaches” located in the Ural-Kazakh steppes. The results of the analysis of information about the burial and memorial complexes became the foundation for a book which was published in Budapest, Hungary, under the authorship of the South Urals researcher.
