At the end of February SUSU students sent a call signal to the International Space Station. From the orbit the flight engineer of the ISS-46 crew Sergey Volkov answered the students’ questions.
The duration of a communication session depends on the crew location in the radio coverage zone. This year the spaceship has made one orbit around the Earth, therefore the call duration was 20 minutes.
On February 26 in the Art hall the Mufti of Chelyabinsk and Kurgan regions Rinat-khazrat Raev met students of South Ural State University. The rector of SUSU Alexander Shestakov, the head of the Administration of Regional Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims Marat Sabirov and the head of the National Policy Directorate of the Ministry of Culture of Chelyabinsk region Ilya Anosov were present at this meeting.
A team of biotechnical researchers from South Ural State University under the leadership of a professor from India announced an innovative development – anti-stress bread and yogurt. The public needs these and other products as an element of the complex correction of illnesses tied to chronic stress and a bad environment. The research results will be published in a month.
On February 28, 2016 at 11:00 the final stage of Multidisciplinary Engineering Olympiad ‘Star’ will be held. The event will take place at two locations: in the lobby of the Assembly Hall of the main building of SUSU (Lenin Ave., 76) and on the 2nd floor of the 2d building of the university (Lenin Ave., 85).
On February 16-20 SUSU delegation which included Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Construction Dmitry Ulrikh and the head of the International Programs and Funds Department Yulia Balakina visited the University of Genoa (Italy). The three-day meeting was focused on implementation of a joint project designed to development of competence in the sphere of higher education “Erasmus+ MARUEEB Project “Master Degree in Innovative Technologies in Energy Efficient Buildings for Russian & Armenian Universities and Stakeholders”
On the 20th of February two workshop sessions on the problems of business modeling were passed in the MBA Center of SUSU.
The masters of the workshop sessions were:
- Irina Sufiiarova, expert in the field of staff management and motivation, instructor of Human Resource Management at the Presidential program of MBA Center in the Ural Business School;
- Konstantin Terentev, instructor of MBA Center of SUSU with five-year work experience as a financial director and consultant on the finance management.
From 18th to 21th of February the Russian Kickboxing Championship among the students of higher educational institutions (section K-1, full-contact, light-contact) was held. Over 150 sportsmen from 27 universities of the Russian Federation took part in this event.
The excursion for students of the Institute of International Education of SUSU, who study Russian and attend preparatory courses, was held on February 18 in the framework of the Forum “Science of SUSU”.
On the whole, about 60 applicants and students from China, Iraq, Iran and other states, which universities cooperate with SUSU in the framework of the academic mobility programs, took part in the excursions.
February 17, 2016 anyone could feel the Chinese culture and celebrate the start of the New Year again at SUSU. In China it is common to celebrate the arrival of the New Year with the same broad scale as in the whole world but it is celebrated according to the lunar calendar, hence, it is sometimes called the Lunar New Year. For us the New Year is the winter holiday but for the Chinese it is the spring festival which symbolizes the awakening of nature and the beginning of a new life cycle.
The Day of Uzbekistan in the Urals timed to celebration of the 575th anniversary of a poet, philosopher and state leader Ali-Shir Nava’i’s birth was organized in Chelyabinsk at SUSU on February 18.

South Ural State University will be discussing the available areas of study and programs of specialization, showing research centers and laboratories, and introducing applicants to employers.
The academic and administrative staff of SUSU took part in the survey “Involvement”, designed to analyze a degree of involvement and interest of University members in the Project 5-100. The survey was conducted in two variants: on the University website and by sending to the electronic corporate mail.
Based on the results as of February 16, 524 people took part in the survey. The survey results have shown that on the whole SUSU members are informed about the Project and its role in further development of the University.
On February 11, 2016 the American physics journal “Physical Review Letters” published a report about experimental detection of gravitational waves. One of the authors of this publication is a SUSU graduate Ruslan Vaulin, who majored in Applied Mathematics and Physics. The young scientist conducted his first research study under the supervision of Prof. Valery Beskachko.
The Faculty of Physics of SUSU and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (state university) hold the final round of the All-Russian Olympiad “PHYSTECH-2016”.
On February 27 - 28 the Faculty of Pre-University Training of SUSU under the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Chelyabinsk region and the Information Center for Nuclear Energy of Chelyabinsk holds 26th regional competition of participants of the international program for the development of creative thinking and team cohesion ‘Odyssey of Mind’.
More than 30 teams from Chelyabinsk, Asha, Kopeysk, Miass, Satka, Bakal, Mezhevoy, Ozersk, Snezhinsk, Magnitogorsk, Kremenkul will present their inventive problem solving with more than one correct solution.
Foreign post graduate students studying at South Ural State University within the framework of academic mobility programs will take active part in ‘Science of SUSU’ forum dedicated to the celebration of the Day of Russian Science. They are citizens of Iraq, China, Tajikistan, the Czech Republic, Kazakhstan and other countries. Within the framework of the Forum they will visit scientific and technical centers and university laboratories excursions, as well as visit SUSU Museum of History where they can learn the history of the scientific schools of the University.
The results of VII Internet Mathematical Olympiad for Students, which was held by Ariel University (Israel) on December 15, 2015, were summarized. 127 teams from Russia, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Poland, Israel, Turkmenistan and other countries took part in this competition. Moscow State University, North-Eastern Federal University, Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, universities from Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, Perm, and Chelyabinsk were among the Russian participants.
20 specialists of Volzhsky Pipe Plant (VPP), which is a part of TMK (Pipe Metallurgical Company) have completed a program of professional retraining “Metal Treatment under Pressure. Pipe Welding”. The special training course has been developed by South Ural State University and it corresponds to the specialist training program for universities. The training process was organized directly on the premises. As graduation works the trainees developed and defended project proposals in the context of pipe production.
Scientists from South Ural State University held a seminar on geoinformatics at the University of Guantanamo (Cuba). After this seminar the representatives Russia and Cuba will discuss the possibility of creating a geoinformation observatory.
“Creation of a geoinformation observatory will allow Cuba and Russia to continue collaboration in the field of geoinformatics,” reports Berenice Servantes, Director of the Russian-Iberoamerican International Center of RSSU.
The meeting of academic staff of the University with a leading expert in the field of Russian education, Professor of the Moscow School of Management SKOLKOVO, Deputy Chairman of the Council of International Jury of Project 5-100 Andrey Volkov took place at SUSU on February 10.
