- What were the most outstanding achievements of the past year?
Aigerim Ulan kyzy from Cholpon-Ata (the Kyrgyz Republic) chose to get her higher education in Russia and is now studying International Economics and Trade (in English) at South Ural State University. In her interview, she told us about how the university unites very different people together under its roof, why she chose to study in English, and how she plans to use her knowledge gained in Russia in the future. – Why did you choose to study in Russia?

It is consistently ranked as one of the top Russian universities in national and international rankings. It has one of the best structures for scientific activity in the country. There are about 40 laboratories at the university - the basis for the development of scientific directions for schools and institutes.
What time is it? We ask this question several times a day. The answer helps us understand whether we are on time or we are late, and we make a whole series of decisions. Sometimes we treasure every minute, and once in a while we waste our time. So, we have a general understanding of this one of the main ways to measure our life more or less.
Scientists from South Ural State University and Perm National Research Polytechnic University conducted a joint study of the deformation of reinforced fiberglass under repeated loads. The scientists got unique results on the accumulation of deformations and microdamage during cyclic bending of the composite. In addition, the team of scientists calculated a coefficient, which, if taken into account, can largely prevent the breakage of parts made from this composite.

Scientists of South Ural State University have studied the specific features of using toponyms Chelyabinsk and Yekaterinburg in British mass media in the 19th century and determined the factors influencing their use. The gala concert of the Vmeste (“Together”) International Festival of Creativity was held at South Ural State University on May 21st. Last year, the festival was held online due to the coronavirus restrictions; this year the students performed in the SUSU auditorium.

A unique compound bow from the Bronze Age nearly two meters tall was reconstructed from authentic materials by SUSU specialists as part of an international team. This weapon had the greatest accuracy, shooting distance, and killing power in its time.
Reconstructing objects according to archaeological data is one of the most important fields of modern historical science, specialists noted. By reconstructing artefacts of the past based on indirect data, scientists are able to better understand the technology and everyday life of their ancestors.
A collection of essays titled The Story of My Family in the History of My Nation has been presented at South Ural State University. The book is filled with stories of students about the lives of their ancestors and military and labour deeds of their relatives.
