Dynamic measurements are measurements of processes that occur so quickly that conventional technical means cannot detect them fully. However, thanks to new innovative technologies used in the Laboratory of Dynamic Measurements, scientists of South Ural State University are able to obtain more accurate information about what can happen during very fast processes. The research work is conducted jointly with the major industrial enterprises of our region.
SUSU scientists have presented and theoretically substantiated a method of optical generation of large‐amplitude Schrödinger cat states (more than 5 states) – a new unique class of non-classical states of the electromagnetic field. Such states can come in handy when performing certain types of quantum calculations, and/or can be used for building precision (quantum) sensors.

Sergei Krylov, a 10th-form pupil of Lyceum No.77, has taken the first places in the Big Challenges and the 21st Century Intellectuals contests for developing a neural network-based method for diagnosing the condition of bearings. The SUSU Laboratory for Self-Validating Sensors, Systems, and Advanced Instrumentation offered equipment for obtaining data on vibration signals from bearings and provided methodological support for the project.
The opening ceremony of the South Urals Professionals of the Future Championship on Technological Strategy will be held in Room 408 (Main University Building) on May 25th starting from 10:00. The teams will be competing in developing solutions to real production problems in two categories: Aerospace, and Transport Technologies.
A project by SUSU scientists to develop the mechanical elements of blades for uninterrupted operation of wind turbines and quadcopters was supported by a grant from the Russian Science Foundation. This will increase the efficiency of quadcopter battery utilization and reduce the cost of wind turbines for emergency shutdown and restart. The neural network being developed on the basis of a control system is designed to fine-tune the operation of the upgraded equipment.
International Museum Day is celebrated every year on May 18. Nadezhda Ivanova, Head of the Museum and Educational Complex, Director of the Museum the History of South Ural State University, and Yulia Vasina, Head of the People and Technologies of the Urals Museum and Exhibition Complex spoke to us about the importance of museums today, about the history of their formation in Russia, about the qualities necessary for this profession and many other things.
Vladimir Solovev, a famous TV journalist, political commentator, and Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia paid a working visit to South Ural State University on May 17th.
Scientists at SUSU have synthesized new, complex platinum compounds and studied their use as drugs. They found that these compounds are less toxic and can potentially protect the enzymes in the human body that are attacked by chemotherapeutic drugs used to treat cancer.
The Department of International Cooperation, supported by the National Commission of the People's Republic of China for UNESCO, has announced the call for applications for young scientists to receive a UNESCO grant on the topic of The Great Silk Road.
Danila Prosekov, a student of the Department of Optoinformatics and the SUSU Military Training Centre, took part in the All Systems Go 2023 educational forum aimed at finding promising young people who are able to think independently, offer innovative solutions, create and implement scientific innovations and high technologies in priority sectors of economic development.
SUSU students have developed a mobile application that will become a full-fledged fitness assistant. For amateur athletes, it will help overcome psychological discomfort in the gym and better control their training process; and for fitness clubs, it will make interaction with clients and staff members faster, more efficient and convenient.
Autonomous Non-profit Organisation “Zvezda” Centre for Implementation of Educational, Cultural, Sports, and Social Projects” will hold an Art Universe contest aimed at supporting the projects by talented artists, designers, IT specialists, as well as at developing of digital art and forming of the creativity potential of the IT sphere.
This year our university celebrates its anniversary. For 80 years now, it has been training talented students in various programmes and under the guidance of outstanding mentors. Our university was established under the name of Chelyabinsk Mechanical Engineering Institute (CMEI), later was renamed into Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute (CPI), then into Chelyabinsk State Technical University (CSTU), and finally into South Ural State University (SUSU).
SUSU scientists are developing new measurement circuits and methods for diagnostics of the quality of operation of a temperature gauge – thermoelectric transducer (thermocouple). This development can find application in petrochemical industry, mechanical engineering, metallurgy, and electric power engineering. It will allow to improve the accuracy of temperature measurement using thermocouples and will ensure the safety of production processes thanks to early detection of thermocouples' failure.
On May 13, a 3D Tactical Battle Cybersports competition will be held at the SUSU Institute of Sports, Tourism, and Service as part of the 2022-2023 Chelyabinsk Regional Games among Institutions of Higher Education.
3D Tactical Battle is a discipline of cybersports which uses a team-based computer game to simulate tactical battle. Each participant works with their team to control the point and achieve their goal.
The Student Council of the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science held a teambuilding event for IT students and gave them a chance to communicate with staff of leading IT companies in Chelyabinsk in an informal atmosphere.
