On May 21st, the second round of student assessment of the quality of work of the university teachers will begin at SUSU. The evaluation is part of the 5-100 Competitiveness Enhancement Program being fulfilled at the university.
Senior lecturer of the SUSU Department of Foreign Languages, coordinator of the academic programs of the Office of Academic Writing, lecturer of courses on academic writing Ekaterina Nenakhova took part in a two-day training session on the development of professional competences in academic writing.
SUSU’s Association of International Students is an active venue for discussion of the problems of stay of foreign students in different groups: international students, Russian and international students, international students and the university’s administration, diplomatic representatives and public associations.
From the 9th through the 14th of April, the SUSU team took part in an education program of SKOLKOVO Moscow School of Management entitled “A model of globally competitive university” and targeted specifically at managerial teams of the universities participating in Project 5-100.
In March of 2018, Assistant of the Department of Automobile Transport of SUSU’s Automobile and Tractor Faculty, Alexander Alyukov, took part in IMECS-2018 International MultiConference of Engineers and Computer Scientists held from 14th through 16th of March in Hong Kong.
On April 6, in the frameworks of Vmeste (Together) Festival, the Arabic Culture Day is to be held at South Ural State University.
International students from Arab countries will introduce the architecture and art of their countries to the audience, and show them the most famous sights and ancient cities. All the stories will be accompanied with Arabic songs, dances and poems about the countries.
International Mobility Office of South Ural State University invites students to visit presentation of International Summer Schools of 2018.
The presentation is to be held on April 5 at 15:30 in the conference hall of Sigma academic building (78v Lenina prospect, 2nd floor). During the presentation, the audience will learn how to improve one’s knowledge of English language in Prague, how to start speaking Spanish in Cadiz, how to master Chinese ideography and how to make new friends in Germany.
The Project Analysis Session entitled “Projects that ensure implementation of the university’s strategy and transformation” has finished at SUSU. The session was devoted to analysis and assessment of SUSU’s strategy implementation process, determined in September of 2017; to specification of approaches and target milestones of the university in comparison with the world’s tendencies and best experiences of leaders in education; and to correction of projects that ensure implementation of the corrected strategy.
SUSU’s Office of Academic Writing opened an admission to courses of English language improvement for successful preparation of scientific publications in the following areas:
English language: introduction course of article writing;
English language: fundamentals of academic literacy. Grammar and vocabulary;
Today on the market of pipeline fittings a significant segment is occupied by flanges used for connection of pipes. Despite the fact that Russian companies are leaders of this market, they often use outdated technologies. The scientists from South Ural State University are working on expanding technological possibilities of processes of hot die forging to make them more cost-effective.
South Ural State University is successfully supporting gifted students. All winners of the On to Discoveries contest held at SUSU under Project 5-100 earned grants for completion of their research projects. One of those winners was Andrey Efremov, a student of the SUSU Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
Today the number of satellites in Space is enormous; therefore their reliable and long-lasting service life becomes a topical issue. Even small meteorites and pieces of space debris are dangerous for satellites. Scientists of South Ural State University are working on development of unique composite panels for protecting space objects from meteorites.

One of the promising fields of research is organic compounds of antimony, which have long been attracting attention of scientists by their useful properties.
In September of 2017, South Ural State University, one of the largest and the most well-known universities of Russia, launched a new international education program of double master’s degree study in the specialty of “ Electrical Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering” (specialization in “Complex use of renewable sources of energy”).

In spring semester of 2018, master’s degree students of SUSU will have a unique chance to complete supplementary English language courses FOR FREE in the workload of 72 hours and obtainment of a certificate on vocational enhancement.
The courses are going to start on February 12 of 2018 in the format of 4 in-class hours per week. Time and venue of the courses are determined upon an arrangement with the teacher.
According to Webometrics Ranking of World Universities published at the end of January, SUSU improved its result in the world ranking for 34 positions, climbing up from 2089th to 2055th place compared to the last ranking’s edition. Among Russian universities SUSU is placed 24th.
As a reminder, the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is issued twice a year: in July and January. Around 25 000 of the world’s universities get included in the ranking.
In order to produce micro details for electronics and medicine, new methods based on micro mechanical processing are as relevant as ever. Scientists of South Ural State University are developing an innovative model for micromachining of details by micro grinding.
The necessity of high technologies in fundamental industry branches is still one of the topical issues of manufacturing. Scientists of South Ural State University invented a new technique of forming in precision casting which will allow for multiple speeding the process, and make it more simple and safe for the environment.

Interdisciplinary research on nanotechnology, molecular physics, optics, electronics, and biology is opening new paths for science towards solving important issues where a narrow, single-field approach cannot do that.
In the not so distant future there will be a new technological wave in industry thanks to the fourth industrial revolution known as “Industry 4.0”. The transition from an industrial society to an information society will lead to changes in education. Already today in South Ural State University augmented-reality educational laboratory stands are being developed, thus implementing the fourth industrial revolution technologies into the education process.
