On May 21st, the second round of student assessment of the quality of work of the university teachers will begin at SUSU. The evaluation is part of the 5-100 Competitiveness Enhancement Program being fulfilled at the university.
“These student evaluations of university teaching are an innovation for SUSU. Such kind of monitoring has not been held in our university before,” says project head, Deputy Director of the School of Medical Biology Natalya Popova. “The questionnaire for evaluation was created based on information from the Univeris system of academic management for each of the academic disciplines of the current semester.”
Thanks to the polling, students can influence the quality of academic disciplines and the level of teaching at their university. The university administration can analyze current impressions of the quality and quantity of the higher education programs and the work of its teaching staff, and use these impressions, for example, in correcting the curriculum.
The first round of student assessment of their professors was held November 6th through 29th of 2017. To effectively assess the results of each teacher, his/her work should have been evaluated by no less than 40% of his/her students whom s/he taught during the semester.
In the first round of polling, 54.2% of the overall student body responded. Overall, students evaluated 1,276 professors, and the TOP 10% (128 people), TOP 25% (319 people), and TOP 50% (638 people) were determined.
Do teachers pay attention to the practical value of the theory being covered? Is the material taught in an accessible way? Do they give recommendations on how to prepare for exams or tests? Are they tolerant to points of view which differ from their own? Students can answer these questions and others during the polling. Thanks to the evaluations, students have the chance to offer their opinions on their mentors and influence the improvement of the academic process quality.
Student assessments of teaching staff involve students from all Bachelor’s, Specialist, and Master’s academic programs.
Students must complete the evaluation before June 10, 2018, and then access will be locked. To participate in evaluations for this semester, students must log in to their Univeris personal accounts and, in the attachments, complete the questionnaire to evaluate their professors. The evaluations are anonymized once they reach the server. This guarantees the full anonymity of the answers.
