Participants of the project of the Virtual Museum of South Ural’s Writers – master’s degree students of the Department of Russian Language and Literature – are working on the first key stages of the work, which is panoramic shooting of the object, the museum/apartment of a famous poet from Chelyabinsk, Yanis Grants.

On October 26 and 27, the 11th meeting of the Council for Enhancement of Competitiveness of Leading Universities of the Russian Federation among World’s Leading Research and Education Centres (the Council of Project 5-100) was held in Kaliningrad. In the course of the meeting, results of each university’s progress within programme 5-100 were thoroughly analysed.

Today, art spaces are moving more and more towards virtual spaces. Many museums in Russia and around the world have their own virtual twins. Of special note are literary museums. Without leaving your apartment, you can visit museums dedicated to Mikhail Bulgakov, Marina Tsvetaeva, and many other authors. In 2018 our university also joined the process of creating such virtual memorial house museums, as part of a focus on project-based learning.
Each of the SUSU schools or institutes is engaged in project-based education today. The value of such approach to training is that along with theory the future professionals could obtain certain practical skills, which s/he could directly apply in production while joining the process of work. As much as seven Master’s students are involved in the project by the SUSU School of Medical Biology, who travel to test fields, do experiments and analyse their results.
Starting from September of 2018, SUSU has been officially implementing project-based training within master’s studies. Project-based learning programmes are presented practically in all Schools and Institutes of SUSU.
South Ural State University is continuing to expand the borders of its international collaboration. SUSU Rector Aleksandr Shestakov has signed a partnership agreement with Sudan University of Science and Technology, which was represented by Rector Rashid Ahmed Mohamed Hussein. Professor Hussein is also the director of the Department of Research at the Ministry of Higher Education and Science of the Republic of Sudan.
Two years ago, on October 3, 2016 the Office of Academic Writing began its work at SUSU in order to integrate the research and teaching staff of SUSU into the world’s academic community. The services that the Office offers are in big demand among the university employees, since absolutely free of charge the authors get a complex assistance from tutors and professional consultants at all stages of preparing their scientific publications: starting with consulting on choosing a journal and executing an article and ending with editing of its English version by a native speaker.
Masters, postgraduates, young researchers, and research staff have the unique chance to take classes in the Lingva program of additional linguistic training in the 2018/2019 academic year within the frames of the university competitiveness enhancement project.
The aim of the program is to enhance the level of the English language knowledge of the university employees for their active participation in the international scientific and educational activity.
In the new academic year, the SUSU Institute of Open and Distance Education invites university staff and teachers to join the courses on advanced training. The topics of the advanced training courses are the intersection of new informational and pedagogical technologies. The training is practice-oriented, what allows the students who complete the course to efficiently implement the obtained knowledge and skills in their work.

On September 11th through 14th, the 30th Annual EAIE Conference and Exhibition, the major event in the sphere of higher education in Europe, was held in Geneva (Switzerland). Russian higher education institutions were represented by universities-participants of Project 5-100, South Ural State University among them.
The Accreditation in Education All-Russian Informational and Analytical Journal evaluated educational programs of South Ural State University. Experts of the ranking were representatives of academic community of Russia’s higher education institutions.
By the results of expert voting within the Best Programs of Innovative Russia project, 15 main educational programs of SUSU were listed among the best in the Russian Federation.
RAEX Rating Agency (RAEX-Analytics) has for the fourth time prepared the rankings of universities by reputation within broad fields. For several years now the status of South Ural State university in this ranking has been stable.
Every year the lists of Top 50 universities are published for the fields of “Engineering, Natural Sciences and Mathematics” and “Economics and Management”, as well as of Top 10 universities for the fields of “Mathematics and Natural Sciences”, “Technical Sciences, Engineering and Technologies”, “Humanities and Social Sciences”, and “Medicine”.

Candidate of Sciences (Physics and Mathematics) Aleksey Trukhanov, who is senior research fellow at the SUSU Nanotechnologies Research and Education Centre, is studying electrolytic films to create electromagnetic and magnetic shields capable of neutralizing the radiation.
On September 3, the President and Director General of SMS group Inc. (USA) Pino Tese visited South Ural State University, where he delivered a lecture.
Professor Pino Tese is a Professor of the Department of Machines and Processes of Plastic Metal Working, and regularly delivers lectures at SUSU. This time, he read a lecture about skin-pass mills for 4th-year students of the Faculty of Material Science and Metallurgical Technologies (MSMT).
