Chelyabinsk Park Became Cleaner Thanks to SUSU Students

As part of the All-Russian Week of Cleanup Days “We Are for Cleanliness”, dedicated to the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory and the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland, SUSU students, headed by the Vice-Rector for Student and Social Affairs Anton Manuylov, helped to clean up the Recreation and Entertainment park named after Yu.A. Gagarin.

“Cleanup days are held annually on the territory of our university campus, the student town,” said Anton Manuylov. “University students and staff members clean up near the main, second and third university buildings, dormitories and the adjacent territory. And this year, the administration of the Recreation and Entertainment park have asked us to participate in cleaning their territory. Of course, we agreed, since for SUSU, as well as for the whole of Chelyabinsk, this is a landmark place: here students and employees of the university relax, play sports; many events are organized here.”

The goal of the event is to promote social cohesion through strengthening traditional values and caring for the nature of our home country.

April is the best time to clean up our city, so that Chelyabinsk is ready to solemnly celebrate the anniversary of the Great Victory by May 9th. Students enthusiastically participated in the clean-up day: a useful walk in the park during the day is a great way to take a break between classes.

“Mainly activists, representatives of student councils of the SUSU schools and institutes, and the Headquarters of Student Labour Unions take part in the event,” shared chairman of the Student Union Fyodor Borodin. “The cleanup day itself is held as part of the All-Russian Week of Cleanup Days. This is an opportunity to participate, on the one hand, in cleaning the park (a place that is very close to SUSU and is popular with students), and on the other hand - in an event dedicated to the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland.”

The park administration gave the volunteers bags for litter, rakes and gloves, marked out the territory, and they went off into the forest, collecting garbage, wire, dried branches and plastic bags. They raked up the litter and last year's fallen leaves along the way. The filled bags were put in a specially designated place so that they could be easily removed later. After their fruitful work, the volunteers went together to drink tea in the “Our Floor” student space.
