SUSU Expands Collaboration with China's Leading University

Representatives of South Ural State University have met with a delegation from Southwest Forestry University (Kunming, China). The parties have discussed the prospects of development of our long-term partnership.

The negotiations have been held by Vice-Rector for Education Marina Potapova, Head of the International Office Ludmila Lapina and Head of the Department of Electric Drives, Mechatronics and Electromechanics Maksim Grigoriev, as well as the Vice-Rector and deans of faculties of Southwest Forestry University.

Our universities have been collaborating since 2018 and are successfully implementing the Mechatronics academic programme. The project is being fulfilled in a "2+2" format, when students take training both in China and Russia. In the course of the meeting a decision has been made on expanding our collaboration towards new academic programmes and institutes. The parties have also agreed to intensify our cooperation in Master's degree programmes and add new programmes: Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Transport, and Materials Science.

"An important step, on which we have agreed with our colleagues from China today, will be the creation of a joint laboratory for research in the fields of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering. It will help combine the efforts of universities and their industrial partners," noted Marina Potapova.

The cultural aspect of collaboration will also be developing: it is planned to open a Centre of Open Education in the Russian Language named after A.S. Pushkin at the Chinese university, organize internships, summer schools and academic tourism, as well as exchange of students and teaching staff at the Inter-university Campus, which is being constructed in Chelyabinsk. The partners' plans for the nearest future include holding of days of cultures, practice-oriented contests and conferences.

As part of the visit, Marina Potapova has met with Chinese students who are planning to study at SUSU under the "2+2" program. During the friendly and informal talk the students received answers to their questions about the prospects of studying in Master's degree programmes of South Ural State university and about the specifics of living in Russia.
