Valentin Silantyev, a fifth-year student at South Ural State University, has won the Urban Improvement Competition in the Central Squares category.
The Urban Improvement Competition is held in support of the Infrastructure for Life national project and was created to involve students of architectural faculties of Russian universities in the development of projects for the improvement of public spaces.
More than 1500 students from 379 universities registered to participate in the competition. Future architects had to develop projects for the improvement of public areas represented by 64 entities of the Russian Federation. The contestants presented their works in four main categories: Park Areas; Embankment Areas; Courtyard Spaces; and Central Squares.
The competition started in September 2024 and included two educational accelerators. More than 30 leading Russian architects acted as speakers.
In the final, the projects were assessed according to criteria such as novelty and originality of solutions, artistic and compositional integrity, economic efficiency and environmental principles of design solutions, as well as social significance and feasibility.
The winner in the Central Squares category was Valentin Silantyev, a fifth-year student of the Department of Architecture in the specialty "Architectural Environment Design" at South Ural State University, with a project for the improvement of the Lenin Central Square in the City of Korkino, Chelyabinsk Region. It should be noted that Valentin Silantyev is a participant in a number of international competitions in the areas of urban development ("Winter University", Irkutsk 2024), winner of All-Russian competitions in the areas of reverse engineering ("World Skills Russia" 2018), restoration and preservation of cultural heritage sites ("Heritage Youth Forum" 2022, 2024), BIM design ("TIM-Championship of St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering" 2023), urban improvement ("UrbanUral", Salekhard 2021), participant and winner of a number of regional and city competitions in Chelyabinsk and our region, such as "Peremena" 2021, "Pushkin Workshop" 2022.
The competition was organized by the ANO National Priorities and the DOM.RF Development Institute with the support of the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Utilities of the Russian Federation.
