Teaching Staff Member of the School of Economics and Management among the TOP 5 Best Mentors of Our Country

In the 2024/2025 academic year, as part of the “Your Move” project, a “Your Move, Mentor” contest was launched, in which mentors of first-year students could participate. Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Economy and Information Technology of the School of Economics and Management Ekaterina Fedyai took the 4th place in Russia, beating more than 1.4 thousand applicants to prize winning.

The goal of the contest for mentors is to introduce first-year students to the “Your Move” project and show students the possibilities of youth policy at the university, region and federal level. As part of the contest, more than 1400 mentors from 71 regions of our country actively shared their plans and results, and how they organize extracurricular activities.

Our university was represented by Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Economy and Information Technology of the School of Economics and Management Ekaterina Fedyai. The contest was held in several rounds. The first round was an introduction showpiece, in which it was necessary to talk about yourself, about your vision of the work of a first-year students’ mentor. The next rounds required to draw up a socio-psychological portrait of a group of students, independently organize a joint event with the group, and also prepare an essay reflecting on the topic of “Mentor: Friend or Tutor?".

At the end of November, it became known that Ekaterina Fedyai entered the top 20, but the organizers kept the intrigue until the last moment, and only at the forum, which took place on December 16-20, 2024, the results of the competition were announced: she became the fourth in our country. Our university was also represented by Anna Brazhko, a student mentor of the Institute of Law, who took the 13th place in the ranking.

"I decided to participate in the contest spontaneously, I practically “backdoored” my way into it. When I found out that I was in the top 20 and invited to Moscow for the forum, I was very surprised. And when they announced to the whole country that I took the 4th place, I was simply shocked. There were many rounds in the contest, I tried to approach the tasks very seriously and creatively. For me some rounds were an obvious step out of my comfort zone. But I couldn't shake the feeling that here I was representing not only myself and my group of first-year students, but the entire university! The work of a mentor is a very responsible task, often unnoticed, so the contest is a great opportunity to show everyone the importance of this work, to prove to yourself, and above all to the guys, that you can participate in many student activities and win. You must not be afraid, not be lazy and believe in yourself!" said Ekaterina Fedyai, Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Economy and Information Technology of the School of Economics and Management, winner of the “Your Move, Mentor” All-Russian Project.
