Over 20 years of work, you have learned to quickly adapt to changes in the media sphere and always be aware of current events that are interesting to both teachers and students. SUSU-TV and the Media Centre are a unique platform where students can gain practical experience and feel new emotions from their future profession, which they came to study at the university."
The SUSU-TV Television and Radio Company was founded in 2004 and since then has become an important element of the educational process, providing students with a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in media production. Over the 20 years of its existence, SUSU-TV has become one of the leading student TV and radio companies in Russia. It covers the lives of students and teachers at the university, as well as the events taking place in the Chelyabinsk Region 24 hours a day.
"The SUSU-TV Television and Radio Company was founded 20 years ago. At that time, no one knew about the existence of applied Bachelor's degree programs, basic departments, and an activity-based approach to education, but Liudmila Shesterkina and Sergey Gordienko brought their unique technology to the educational process. They linked students' education with their practical activities, allowing students to work as journalists, camera operators, and editors from their first year. For this purpose, a unique material and technical base was created, and the most modern equipment was purchased. Every student dreamed of working at the editing table, picking up a camera, a microphone, and starting work," said Andrey Shmidt, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region.
The anniversary session presented the key achievements and project initiatives of the TV and Radio Company and discussed the prospects for its further development. During the event, the participants discussed the role of SUSU-TV in creating modern educational standards for future journalists and media specialists. The staff of the Television and Radio Company were awarded certificates of honour and gratitude from the Rector of SUSU for many years of conscientious work in the field of information policy and promotion of our university, high professionalism in educating a new generation of media specialists, a great personal contribution to the development of student television and in connection with the 20th anniversary of SUSU-TV.
"SUSU-TV is educational television, and this is our specialty. A new generation of journalists and media specialists are being trained at our television company. We provide students with the opportunity to master all the necessary skills: writing, filming, editing, voice-over, working in front of the camera, on the Internet and on air. These competencies are important for any modern media specialist," explained Liudmila Shesterkina, Head of the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations at the SUSU Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities.
In 2023, a Student Media Centre was opened at the premises of the SUSU Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities as a regional platform of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, where SUSU-TV became the link between all elements of the media space.
"SUSU-TV is one of the leaders in our country, training many successful specialists, who win awards and have significant achievements. I am convinced that this is a real symbol of pride for the Chelyabinsk Region. I want to congratulate the entire staff and students, because for them these years are the most important and memorable.
