A ceremonial gathering of scientific dynasties of the South Ural region was organised at the Chelyabinsk Region Government Administration on December 16th. 12 scientific dynasties from 6 leading universities, including from South Ural State University, took part in the awarding ceremony.
Deputy Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Vadim Evdokimov addressed the guests of the event with a welcome speech:
“Scientific dynasties make special contribution to the development of science since, in your families, you spark interest necessary for the development of scientific research activities in our region. The knowledge accumulated in scientific dynasties is important for the improvement of modern science. They include, of course, the past-years experience, as well as a new experimental view of science. The activities of scientific dynasties contribute to the growth of the scientific and industrial research potential of our region and the subsequent sustainable functioning of the entire scientific infrastructure.”
The regional government pays special attention to supporting scientists and stimulating scientific activity. Our region has created all the conditions for identifying and fostering talented youth. The support is provided for the participation of regional universities in the Priority 2030 strategic academic leadership program. The Government representatives also outlined that in the coming years, yet another impetus for the development of science in our region will be the creation of a world-class inter-university campus.
“We are interested in our region to preserve its scientific potential, increase all the competencies that have been fulfilled over many years. We actively participate in the agenda of scientific and technological development of our country in many areas. We also actively support fundamental and applied research studies. It is important to note that the infrastructure, capabilities and resources that are being improved in the scientific sphere today pay off only if we have the right people: our scientists and their potential,” said Minister of Education and Science of the Chelyabinsk Region Vitaliy Litke.
As part of the ceremonial event, two dynasties of South Ural State University were distinguished for their high achievements in research activities and for their significant contribution to the development of science in the South Ural region.
The dynasty of the Baevs is known for their research studies in the field of economics and project management. Their total experience equals 232 years.
“My father, brother, other relatives and I have been involved in science and academic work for a long time, and it is great that such an event has been held for the first time. This shows that our work is in demand and is adequately appreciated,” shared Professor of the Department of Industrial Economics and Project Management at the SUSU School of Economics and Management Leonid Baev.
Technical and chemical sciences are the main scientific areas of research of the dynasty of Irina Yushina, Olga and Zoya Kolosova. Their total experience equals 108 years.
“I am very happy to see that scientific dynasties are being recognized both by the Government and our university, this is very nice. You start feeling like a member of the big family of SUSU, science and pedagogy of the South Urals,” said Professor of the Department of Engineering Mechanics of the SUSU Institute of Engineering and Technology Olga Kolosova.
The ceremony was held within the frameworks of the Decade of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation and is timed to coincide with the Year of the Family declared by the President in 2024.
