Students of the SUSU Institute of Law took part in the opening ceremony for a thematic and documentary exhibit in the South Urals Museum of Law. The event was organized on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of adopting Part One of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation. The exhibition is titled “The Civil-Law Relations in Russia” and was assembled by the Centre for Legal and Business Information of the Multi-purpose Scientific Library of the Chelyabinsk Region.
At the opening ceremony, the event participants were welcomed by the Russian civil law scholar, Head of the Department of Civil Law of Lomonosov Moscow State University, one of the participants of the working team on creation of the Civil Code, and member of the Russian Federation Presidential Council for Codification and Enhancement of Civil Legislation Evgeniy Suhkanov.
“Part One of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation was adopted on November 30, 1994. It became the first code in the period of transformation of the economic life in our country and consolidated all the main rules and institutions necessary for the regulation of private matters. It’s been nice to see the exhibit of the previous editions of Civil Codes of Russia, and to reminisce on how they were being created and in what social and economic conditions they were adopted,” shared the opening ceremony participant Irina Baukina, Associate Professor of the SUSU Department of Civil Law and Civil Legal Procedures.
The event was held with the participation of staff members of the Chelyabinsk Regional Branch of the Association of Russian Lawyers, Faculty of Law of Lomonosov Moscow State University, representatives of the Office of the Human Rights Commissioner for the Chelyabinsk Region, Ministry of Justice of the Chelyabinsk Region, Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Chelyabinsk Region, State Museum of History of the South Ural Region, Special Communications and Information Service of the Federal Protective Service of the Russian Federation for the Chelyabinsk Region, Prosecutor's Office of the Chelyabinsk Region, and the Chelyabinsk Branch of the Urals Main Directorate of the Central Bank of Russia.
“The Civil Code of the Russian Federation regulates our everyday life (be that items purchased during shopping or trips using public transport), as well as the issues of property, mortgage loans, copyright and contractual relationships. That is why the Civil Code of the Russian Federation is also known by a name of the economic constitution of our country, and its rules apply to the lives of all our citizens. This explains the students’ interest to its history, draft development, adopting of the first version and further reforming. I would like to thank the exhibition organizers for their thorough work and the invitation to take part in the opening ceremony,” explained the exhibition opening ceremony participant Tikhon Podshivalov, Head of the Department of Civil Law and Civil Legal Procedures, Deputy Director for Research of the SUSU Institute of Law, and member of the Russian Federation Presidential Council for Codification and Enhancement of Civil Legislation.
