Who Is the Best Here: Ambitious Students Awarded in Chelyabinsk

They study at universities and vocational schools in completely different specialities. However, there is one thing that unites all of them: their desire to improve their hometown, region and country.

Such mood prevailed at the ceremony of awarding the winners of the regional round of the “Student of the Year” contest project.

All students were greeted by Deputy Head of the Department of Youth Policy of the Chelyabinsk Region Aleksey Khrushchev:

“South Ural State University is one of the headliners of the student movement, it welcomed us on its territory, for which I want to express special gratitude. I wish you to proudly represent our region at the all-Russian round of the contest. Well, for those who do not win, do not be upset. This contest is cool, and we will be waiting for your applications next year!”

“At this event I’ve realized that students are very lucky since they live in a time of opportunities. Back when I was a student, and this was 14 years ago, we did not have the same resources in the field of youth policy that we do now. And this is very cool. And also, we live in the coolest region of Russia – the Chelyabinsk Region. This is a region of opportunities. I wish the participants to move forward, to conquer new heights,” said Vice-Rector for Student and Social Affairs Anton Manuylov.

“I would recommend the participants to develop digital skills and competencies. They will definitely come in handy. Our school is absolutely free of charge. There are no mentors or teachers at the School, everyone is responsible for their own professional development and learns something from others,” said Dmitriy Kozlenkov, Director of School 21

Milena Buman, manager of the “Student of the Year” regional project and specialist in the youth projects department of the “Youth of the South Urals” Autonomous Non-profit Organization, drew attention to the fact that more than 170 applications for participation in individual categories were received and not all students were able to get to the in-person round of the contest:

“The participants are very strong, they have prepared really good works. We really hope that at the All-Russian round there will be winners from our region who will represent us with dignity.”

This year, a new category, Volunteers of the Year, has appeared. Participants have to describe the events in which they participate, as well as show volunteer books and talk about their good deeds.

I spoke about my activities, which I have been engaged in over the past two years, and solved a fairly simple case. The emotions from participating are only positive, I want to thank my parents, teachers and mentors and, of course, our dear SUSU!” said student Aleksandr Kolesnik.

Postgraduate Dilrabo Tozhikulova spoke about her contribution to youth policy of the Chelyabinsk Region:

“I am incredibly happy, I want to thank my friends and family who guided me and helped me take part in the very last minutes! A huge thank you to my family and friends for their endless support”

Fedor Borodin became the winner in the “Chairman of the Student Council of the Year” category:
