As part of the Science and Universities project, which is being implemented upon instructions of the President of the Russian Federation, students from leading universities in Chelyabinsk have gained access to modern and comfortable spaces – they have moved into new hostels. The Inter-university Campus unites seven universities in our city. This figure has become symbolic: the buildings are opening in the Year of the Family, they have seven floors, and in the future, seven more facilities will be built.
"Today is a historic event for our region and for the city of Chelyabinsk. The first two facilities of the Inter-university Campus are being put into operation, and in a few years a new city of the future will be built here − young, energetic, with new ideas. Teams of researchers will work here. They will make breakthrough discoveries and strengthen our technological sovereignty, develop the economy and strengthen our country's defence power!" noted the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler in his opening speech.
But the heart of the campus, according to the Governor, is the education and research centre, as well as a modular conference hall. Dozens of modern laboratories will operate here, and on their basis the “research and scientific backbone of our campus” will be formed.
"For us, the federal campus project is a new growth point for the region, the university and the youth. We expect that the result will be an influx of new blood, young people will understand that Chelyabinsk has cool infrastructure and good universities," said Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of Russia Andrey Omelchuk.
The hostel buildings are designed to accommodate 168 people each. The buildings have original architectural and planning solutions that will create a comfortable environment for students. In total, more than 5000 people will be able to receive education in the new space!
"Today the first residents have moved in the hostels, the students and their parents are very happy that they have the opportunity to live in such wonderful conditions. In addition to ergonomic furnishing, the campus provides a list of various services: cleaning, linen change, cleaning of premises. Therefore, we hope that our students will have more opportunities and time to engage in science and educational activities," said SUSU Rector Alexander Wagner.
The symbolic keys made of Kasli cast-iron moulding were received by student representatives from each university participating in the project. Now they have to move their things, arrange their rooms and work places, and meet their neighbours. After all, the new academic year begins in a few days!
"I was afraid of moving. But I’ve moved in and immediately relaxed, because everything is done for students: it is very comfortable, cozy, and just like at home. There is a large, spacious, roomy closet for things. Initially, I planned to move into the new campus because the price matches the quality," shared her impressions Iuliia Melnichuk, a first-year SUSU student from Magnitogorsk.
The project is being implemented within the framework of the Science and Universities national project.
