Chess Boxing World Championships wrapped up in Italy. Students from South Ural State University became silver medal winners in this tournament.

Students of the SUSU Institute of Law, Amina Akhmadulina and Artem Sldoyan made it to the finals, where in fair competition they yielded the first places to their opponents from Germany and France.

The Russian team included 20 chess boxing athletes from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Ufa, Surgut, Ryazan, Barnaul, and Chelyabinsk. It was not for the first time that our students participated in such a tournament. One year ago, in Turkey, Amina had become a World Champion, and Artem – a silver medal winner.

Amina and Artem are representatives of the Dinamo society and train under the supervision of Aleksey Shakhovskoy.

“Chess boxing gives me an opportunity to develop in two fields at once. For example, chess really help in everyday life, you start thinking several steps ahead in various situations, and analyse what will happen next,” said Amina.

Brief information:

According to the chess boxing rules, a competition lasts five rounds. For one round the athletes are boxing for three minutes, and then they sit at the chessboard and are given a time of 4.5 minutes to think for the whole competition. Once each athlete makes a move, they get up and continue the fight. The winner is the first one to give mate to the opponent or to knock him out.
