International students enrol in South Ural State University every year. Today, more than 2000 international students from 56 countries of the world are studying at the university. International applicants learn about the university from their friends, at educational venues, through social media, university advertising on the Internet, representatives of Russia abroad and from other information sources.
“There are several categories of applicants. Some make a decision to study Russian and special disciplines within one year, so that next, having advanced language knowledge, to enrol in main educational programme. Others tend to choose an educational programme taught completely in English. There are students, who come as part of programmes with partner universities, for example, Namangan Engineering-Construction Institute, Zhejiang Ocean University and other universities,” says the Head of the International Student Support Valeria Chachina.
Key factors of why choose SUSU are: the quality of Russian education, recommendations by fellow citizens, standing in international rankings, information openness of the university, efficiency and quality of interaction between the applicants and university staff members.
“We have an individual approach to every applicant, which allows them to feel confident and safe when choosing a university abroad, from the moment of submitting an application to arriving in Chelyabinsk,” adds Valeria Chachina.
The specifics of the admissions for international students lies in the necessity to conduct an examination of foreign educational documents and establish the correspondence of the level of education received abroad with the Russian one for a number of countries. The Degree Recognition is responsible for acceptance and examination of documents. SUSU is one of the Russian universities that have the right to independently recognize foreign education document. SUSU applicants can take advantage of this unique opportunity, which will significantly facilitate the process of their admission to the university since the assessment of their educational documents by the Degree Recognition relieves them from the necessity to undergo the document assessment procedure at the Federal Accreditation Agency in Moscow.
“This year, the Admissions Campaign has been interesting and intense. Students from “new” countries for SUSU, such as Italy, Mozambique, Tanzania, Ecuador, and Mali enrolled in the university. Among the educational documents submitted for recognition were also those issued in Australia, Germany, Canada, and the USA. We can also note the growing interest in the university from citizens of African countries,” says Director of the Degree Recognition Semen Gamm.
Another important tool for attracting students to the university is the possibility for foreign citizens to apply for free tuition by obtaining a quota from the Russian Government. This year more than 100 such scholarship recipients are studying at SUSU. To obtain the quota for the next academic year, foreign citizens can also submit an application on the website.
“Admission to the supplementary educational programme for studying the Russian language (for students of the Faculty of Pre-University Education) continues until October 1st. In the meantime, students and postgraduates have already begun their studies. We wish them good luck in this difficult but interesting journey and look forward to successful learning results!” says specialist of the International Student Support Abubakar Yaro.
Understanding that the success of educational process largely depends on the successful adaptation of international students, the South Ural Association of International Students and Alumni, supported by the International Office, is implementing a number of programs and projects.
