The Department of Building and Engineering Structures of the Institute of Architecture and Construction of South Ural State University offers training at the following levels of education: Specialist's programmes, Master's degree programme (Construction), postgraduate studies (Structural Engineering; Building and Engineering Structures).
"We invite you to become experts in construction design, reconstruction, and strengthening of buildings and engineering structures," says Head of the Department, Candidate of Sciences (Engineering), Associate Professor Maksim Mishnev. "Students gain fundamental knowledge and professional skills in these fields of study."
Graduates majoring in 08.05.01 Construction of Unique Buildings and Structures gain competencies in pre-project collection of information, studying development areas, creating and controlling projects. Full-time study lasts 6 years; state-funded/contract-based forms of education are offered.
In the process of training, students learn reinforced concrete and stone structures of buildings and structures, including metal structures, acquire knowledge related to the study of structures made of wood and plastic, foundation engineering, and soil mechanics. Today, Specialist's programmes are considered as the most complete form of higher education. During the final academic year, students have a whole semester to prepare their graduation work without distraction to other classes.
Entrance examinations: Mathematics (Unified State Examination), Physics or Computer Science (Unified State Examination), and Russian Language (Unified State Examination).
Students enrolled in 08.04.01 Construction study in depth the specifics of the work and design of modern building structures, methods of experimental research and automated systems used in the design of buildings and structures. Full-time study lasts 2 years; state-funded/contract-based forms of education are offered.
As part of the training, Master's degree students learn information technology in construction, the theory of calculating high-rise buildings, acquire knowledge related to the reliability and durability of load-bearing building structures.
Entrance examinations: Examination for Master's Degree.
"While studying at the Department of Building and Engineering Structures, I spent every summer practical training at large construction sites in the city, studying the activities of specialists, from a worker filling a foundation slab to a proof engineer applying geodetic marks or checking the reinforcement of floor slabs. Gaining invaluable practical experience, I continued my education at my favourite institute and enrolled in a Master's degree programme in the Calculation Theory and CAD for Buildings and Structures. In July 2020, after successfully defending my Master's thesis, I was hired to the Department of Improvement and Development of the Urban Environment of the Administration of the City of Chelyabinsk. Let's hope that soon we will see the fruits of the labours that have transformed our hometown," says Iuliia Andrievskikh, specialist of the Department of Improvement and Development of the Urban Environment of the Administration of the City of Chelyabinsk.
Postgraduate students majoring in 08.06.01 Structural Engineering under the programme 05.23.01 Building and Engineering Structures are engaged in scientific and technical research and development in the field of rational design of structural and space-planning solutions of buildings and structures. They also investigate technical performance and structural safety of those.
The importance of solving scientific and technical problems provided for by specialty 05.23.01 consists in creating the most perfect and reliable structures. Full-time study lasts 4 years; state-funded/contract-based forms of education are offered.
Entrance examinations in: Philosophy, Foreign Language, entrance examinations in a special discipline.
"Thanks to my successful graduation from SUSU, I was invited to the Department of Building and Engineering Structures. I combined teaching activities with practical and research work, conducted experimental research in laboratories for testing building structures, soil mechanics and foundation engineering, then launched the OOO Geosmart scientific and technical company. After completing my part-time postgraduate studies and successfully defending my candidate's thesis, I was invited to work at Kuban State Agrarian University, but I still remember with gratitude the scientific schools and traditions of my native university and department," says Fedor Maksimov, Candidate of Sciences (Engineering), Associate Professor of the Department of Foundation Engineering at Kuban State Agrarian University, a member of the Russian Society for Soil Mechanics, Geotechnics and Foundation Engineering, Technical Director of TamanGeoTest company (Krasnodar).
