International Congress of Steelmakers (ISCON) is considered to be one of the most important congresses among metallurgists: both for employees and heads of industrial enterprises, as well as scientific staff. This year, the congress was organised in Ekaterinburg for the 16th time.
Overall, more than 250 people, representing various enterprises and educational institutions of Russia took part in the congress. Employees of Novolipetsk Steel and representatives of AO Vyksa Steel Works, AO Oskol Electrometallurgical Plant, OAO TMK, PAO Severstal, АО EVRAZ NTMK, ООО AMURSTAL, and of other companies presented their reports. MISIS National University of Science and Technology, Tomsk State University, South Ural State University (NRU), Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University, Institute of Metallurgy of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and other organisations represented scientific and educational institutions.
Staff members of the Department of Engineering and Technology of Materials Production of the Zlatoust Branch of South Ural State University also participated in the congress. The Head of the department Iliia Chumanov was invited to the event as the head of the Casting, Crystallization, Finishing Properties of Steel section.
Associate Professor of the Department of Engineering and Technology of Materials Production Andrei Riabov presented a report on Comparative Characteristics of BN Steel with Increased Cutting Ability, in which excerpts of the main provisions of his dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Sciences (Engineering) were presented.
Young staff members of the department Мariia Matveeva, Dmitrii Sergeev, Vadim Sedukhin and engineer of the Department of Technical Training Equipment Ivan Alekseev presented reports on electroslag remelting, modelling of this process, as well as dispersed hardening of cast products. Young employees were extremely interested in the event, since all of them are postgraduates, and this experience of discussion with representatives of scientific and industrial enterprises will help them in further defending their dissertations for their degrees of candidates of sciences.
In the course of the congress the organisers took participants on tour around the production line of AO Pervouralsk Pipe Plant, which has practically all the main technologies for the production of steel pipes and cylinders. The enterprise produces over 25 thousand standard sizes of pipes and pipe profiles from 200 grades of carbon, alloy and stainless steels in accordance with 34 Russian and 25 international standards, as well as 400 technical specifications.
