The All-Russian competitions in cross-country skiing among students, which took place from March 9 through 15 in the city of Zainsk (Republic of Tatarstan) at the Yalta-Zai Sports Training Centre, has come to an end. About 200 athletes from 23 educational organizations from 17 constituent entities of Russia took part in the competition.
The competitions were qualifying rounds for the 30th World Winter Universiade, which will be held in Lucerne (Switzerland) December 11 through December 21, 2021. The best skiers from the strongest universities of the country met at starts. The Chelyabinsk region was represented by students of two universities - the Ural State University of Physical Culture and South Ural State University.
On March 11, athletes competed in a free style sprint race. Among men, the third place was taken by the SUSU student Sergey Volkov. On March 13, the strongest athletes were assessed in the 3 × 5 km relay races among juniors and 4 × 10 km among juniors. The SUSU women's team - Victoria Troshina, Anastasiia Kulikova, Natalia Smirnova won silver medals. On March 14, the strongest skiers competed in a freestyle race. At a distance of 15 km, Sergey Volkov, a student of the SUSU Institute of Sport, Tourism and Service won a silver medal. At a distance of 10 km, Anastasiia Kulikova fulfilled the Master of Sports standard.
In the team competition, the team of South Ural State University takes the 3rd place, the team of the Ural State University of Physical Culture – the 7th place. In the men's team, SUSU skiers take the 2nd place; the SUSU women's team takes the 3rd place.
As a result of the competition, SUSU student Sergey Volkov will represent the Chelyabinsk Region at the 30th World Winter Universiade in Switzerland.
