South Ural Association of International Students and Alumni, with support from the International Office, invites students, staff, and guests of the university to celebrate Nowruz—the New Year for Iranians and Turks.
Nowruz, or International Nauryz Day, is the first day of the Iranian calendar, corresponding to Ormazd day of the month Farvardin (roughly March 21st). The holiday’s roots are in the pre-Islam era: Iranians and Turks celebrated the New Year, which in that time corresponded to the day of spring equinox.
Today, Nowruz symbolizes the start of a new year by the solar astronomical calendar. It is celebrated as a state holiday on March 21 in Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, as well as in some regions of Russia, such as Dagestan, Tatarstan, and Bashkortostan. There is a custom among the peoples celebrating Nowruz: the more generous the holiday, the more prosperous the year will be, and therefore the celebration can last for a week.
We invite everyone to join the celebration of Nowruz in the walls of our university! Guests of the event will be able to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the holiday and get acquainted with the traditions of neighbouring regions and countries. Our students are already preparing national dances, poems, and songs.
The Nowruz celebration will be held on March 23rd in the hall of the Sigma building at 15:00.
