Information Days Held at SUSU for International Students

Information days for international students have been held at the Sigma university complex. Traditionally, the event takes place in October–November, but this academic year the event has been postponed due to the pandemic.

"First-year undergraduate and graduate students have a unique opportunity to ask their questions regarding their stay in Russia and at the university. For this purpose we have specially gathered all the specialists in one room", comments Olga Yaroshenko, Vice-Rector for International Relations.

The information days were held in two stages. On the first day, students from visa-free countries, who mostly speak Russian, were invited to Sigma. The second day was dedicated to visa countries, and an interpreter worked during the event.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Chelyabinsk Region, who told the students about the rules of stay in Russia, reminded that foreigners must comply with all laws of the country, and about the sanctions that can be used if local laws are violated. Employees of Chelyabinsk City Rescue Service prepared a report on fire safety rules and explained how to behave in case of fire.

Representatives of South Ural State University spoke after the invited guests. The Campus director spoke about the rules of living in the dormitory, the director of the Health Centre spoke about the medical examination, the staff of the International Students Association informed the attendees about the events and festivities that will be held for international students.

"Every year we cover these issues for newly admitted international students," says Andrey Kocherov, Head of the International Office. “The questions relate to migration legislation, fire safety, medical insurance, scholarships, etc. All this information is necessary for students to successfully obtain their education and for their safe stay in Russia.”
