Accomplished SUSU Alumnus, Alexander Fedorov, Passed Away

The Rector's Office of South Ural State University regrets to inform that on January 24th, a distinguished alumnus of our university, Alexander Fedorov, passed away at the age of 69 after a long illness.

He was one of the originators of white metallurgy in the Chelyabinsk Region. He was devoted to this field of industry and to the enterprise that was dear to him. Having graduated from the Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute, he has been working at the Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant since 1976, where he rose through the ranks from a metal worker to Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Under the leadership of Alexander Fedorov, pivotal investment projects have been fulfilled at ChelPipe. Vysota 239 large-diameter electric-weld pipe production shop, and ETERNO stamp-welded pipeline parts manufacturing enterprise have been built and put into operation. A new "White Metallurgy" labour philosophy has been elaborated and is successfully being implemented.

Everyone has known and given credit to Alexander Fedorov as a social and political activist. Multiple times the body of electors entrusted him to represent their interests at the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region. He actively participated in the formation of the regional laws covering industry, ecology, use of natural resources, development of road construction, power generation sector, and transport.

Following the initiative of Alexander Fedorov, ChelPipe has been supporting the sectors of healthcare, culture, education, physical culture and sports for many years now. Alexander Fedorov has also been giving support to the projects by his Alma Mater.

Alexander Fedorov received prestigious national awards for his exceptional and creative work. The honorary title of an "Honoured Metallurgist of Russia" was bestowed upon him. He was awarded the Order of Friendship and Order of Honour, Certificate of Merit from the President of the Russian Federation, and Badge of Merit for the Chelyabinsk Region. In 2007 he became honorary citizen of the city of Chelyabinsk, and in 2016 – honorary citizen of the Chelyabinsk Region.

People have always associated his image with an all-powerful legendary hero, bogatyr. A Forbes List businessman, he has always had a unique sense of truth and justice. He was not only a high-level professional and an outstanding public figure, but also a generous philanthropist and a wonderful person.
The Rector's Office and the university staff members express their deepest condolences on this grievous loss to the family, relatives and co-workers of Alexander Fedorov. All those who were lucky to know him or work with him will cherish his memory in their hearts.
