The Urban Greenhouse Challenge is a competition of design projects for innovative multi-storey greenhouse complexes in an urban environment among interdisciplinary teams from the fields of engineering, lighting technology, agriculture, biology, architecture, design, economics, marketing, and others.
For the first time in the history of the project, the competition will be held at a Russian university, that is in Tomsk Polytechnic University, and will be dedicated to innovation technologies for reforestation after fires and felling.
Bachelor’s, Master’s degree students, postgraduates and recent graduates (who graduated from the university no earlier than July 2019) of any field of study are invited to participate in the competition.
Case research tasks:
1. Design of architectural solutions;
2. Materials for making the complex;
3. Recycling ecological technologies in the production (zero waste technology);
4. Development of solutions for the use of natural energy sources (sun, geothermal sources, wind, etc.) for the autonomy of the production;
5. Development of solutions for robotic application of the complex;
6. Architectural lighting and lighting of adjacent territories;
7. Selection of the optimal sizes of multi-level installations;
8. Development of technology for maintaining optimal microclimatic conditions;
9. Development of an automatic lighting system.
Prize fund of the competition is $10,000. The team that takes the first place will receive $4,000, the second place - $2,000, and the third place - $1,000. In addition, teams that have not won a prize, but offered original and interesting solutions for one or several cases, will receive a monetary reward.
Language of the competition is English.
The work of the project teams will be organized in an online format. Experts from Tomsk Polytechnic University and invited specialists will assist the participants. In addition, within the framework of the competition, thematic lectures and master classes will be held.
