On July 2nd, Chelyabinsk was assigned the honorary title of the City of Labour Valour for an outstanding contribution to the victory in the Great Patriotic War. At 11:00 p.m. the facade of the SUSU Main University Building was illuminated by the bright spotlights and lasers. On the biggest screen, Chelyabinsk citizens could observe the story on how our city deserved its new, honorary title.
During those difficult years, the leading industrial enterprises of the USSR were evacuated to Chelyabinsk. Thanks to the prominent engineering specialists’ experience, the functioning of these factories was organized within a very short time. A forge shop, where the machines and weapons of the Victory were being forged, appeared here, in the South Ural region. It was then that our city received its second, high-profile and well-deserved name: Tankograd.
Tankograd was the city, where the clink of hammer did not stop even for a moment. The city, where people had to work in four shifts. The city that worked from dusk till dawn.
South Ural State University congratulates all the citizens of Chelyabinsk on this extremely-important-for-the-city event. For its hard work during the years of the Great Patriotic War, Chelyabinsk earned the title of the City of Labour Valour.
