The development of SUSU within the framework of Project 5-100 on the competitiveness enhancement implies a significant increase in publication activity of the university teaching staff. One of the ways to increase the level of publications in Scopus and Web of Science international scientific databases is the constant improvement of efficient scientific search skills. In an attempt to help teachers, the SUSU Scientific Library regularly organizes workshops and master classes with the aim to teach them efficient use of international archives of scientific knowledge. One of such workshops was held for the staff of the Institute of Law.
“Our meeting with the teachers of the SUSU Institute of Law was devoted to the current trends of publication activity such as the selection of journals, search for scientific information in the key resources as Scopus and Web of Science, and work with full-text resources. We examined the most appropriate practices for selecting journals, methods of identifying high-ranking periodicals for the publication of teachers’ articles. We separately discussed the requirements of the university to the key indicators of efficiency in teachers’ performance as it would help them to choose the right periodicals for their publications,” says the member of the SUSU Scientific Library and ELSEVIER instructor for Scopus and Science Direct key products Damir Khafizov.
The workshop consisted of two parts. In the first part, the participants listened to a lecture on how to find information and select journals for reading and publishing on Scopus and Web of Science platforms. At the end of the lecture, the listeners worked out an algorithm for selecting a journal according to the profile of scientific research in practice.
Iuliia Morozova, Candidate of Sciences (Law), Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedures, Criminal Science and Forensic Enquiry of the SUSU Institute of Law noted the importance of such workshops and master classes for the university staff:
“Such events help teachers to navigate high-quality information resources, master the methods of scientific information searching and operate bibliographic data. We have received valuable practical advice that will be very useful when choosing the journal to publish a scientific article in.”
Scientific Library of South Ural State University regularly holds master classes and workshops on Scopus and Web of Science international scientific databases at the request of academic and teaching staff.
