The Research and Education Centre of Practical and Applied Philosophy and the Department of Philosophy of the SUSU Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities announce the opening of registration for the 16th International Conference on Philosophical Practice organized by them. The conference will take place in Saint Petersburg on July 28-31, 2020. The topic of the conference is “Philosophical Practice: Self-Cognition through Intellectual Creativity”.
What is philosophical practice? It is a field of applied philosophy that deals with various forms of analysis of the worldview issues of people using critical thinking, Socratic dialogue, philosophical counselling, philosophical partnership and many other methods.
What is the aim? The aim and the motive for this activity are the spiritual needs of a modern man to develop his individual ways of self-determination in a new cultural and educational environment, successful adapting to changes, self-cognition of his capabilities, needs and achievements. Philosophical practice involves a variety of forms and methods to provide advice on personal and spiritual development for all ages and social categories.
Since 2014, Russian practical philosophers have been cooperating with the associations of practical philosophers from different countries. Since 1994, international conferences on philosophical practice have been held in various countries of the world. Such countries as Canada (1994), the Netherlands (1996, 2010), USA (1997), Germany (1998), Great Britain (1999), Norway (2001), Denmark (2004), Spain (2006), Italy (2008), South Korea (2012), Greece (2013), Serbia (2014), Switzerland (2016), and Mexico (2018) hosted the conferences. At the last conference in Mexico, it was decided to hold the next conference in Russia in 2020.
The aim of the 16th International Conference on Philosophical Practice is the experience exchange by practical philosophers to clarify the place and the role of philosophy in modern intellectual life, the goals, principles and methods used by the representatives of this field of applied philosophy, as well as to establish the interaction of this field with academic philosophy. The leaders of associations of practical philosophers form different countries such as Greece, Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Norway, Japan, Brazil, Italy, USA, South Korea, Argentina, Serbia, the Netherlands, Finland, Switzerland and India will be among the participants of the conference.
The conference will be interesting and useful not only for philosophers but for teachers, psychologists and social workers as well. In addition, thanks to the interactive methods of work and training courses, anyone, who wants to practice philosophy in his/her everyday life to be able to understand him/herself, to make efficient decisions and to establish fruitful communication, can become a participant of the conference regardless of occupation and field of study.
