“Practice Day” was held at the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities. Teachers and students discussed the results of summer practical training at the event. At the first stage within the framework of Research-to-Practice Conference “Students’ Practical Training in the System of Professional Coordinates”, students of all years of study made scientific reports and shared their personal experience on practical training.
“Over 230 students of the department successfully passed and defended the reports on practical training. 93% of them received excellent and good marks,” informed the Head of the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations, Doctor of Sciences (Philology) Liudmila Shesterkina. “It is important that our students get high points from directors of companies, and this fact is reflected in their Letters of Recommendation. It means that our students obtain good professional competences at SUSU, they are really interested in their future career and seek to learn the ins and outs of journalism as a profession, and they also have good prospects for further employment.”
The geography of practical training is very broad. In summer the future journalists and specialists in the field of advertising and public relations improved their professional skills abroad: in Greece (Thessaloniki), Germany (Freiberg), the Republic of Kazakhstan, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk and the Chelyabinsk Region.
Big federal and regional companies welcomed students for practical training. They are the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "The Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Company" (RTR); СТС-Chelyabinsk Television Company; Kostanay Regional branch of АО “Kazakhstan” Television and Radio Broadcasting Company; ОТВ (Regional Television) Television Channel; “Informpovod” City Newsportal; Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in the Chelyabinsk Region; advertising agencies; press offices; all-Russian and nonprofit companies, and the platforms of the SUSU Mass Media as well, which is SUSU-TV student television and radio company, NewsRoom, and SUSU Radio.
At the event the first-year students who are going to take introductory practical trainings, prepared business cards of their groups where they demonstrated a video message, musical performances, songs and poems. Afterwards the fourth-year students traditionally delivered a farewell speech and wished them success in their future learning.
“Today I have learnt a lot about the system of practical training thanks to the senior students. I have been very inspired by the stories of the students and would like to take practical training, especially abroad. Senior students told us many interesting and useful facts having answered our questions. I haven’t had any idea on practical training before, but right now I am waiting for the summer to try my hand in the profession. I am very glad that I am studying at the university, which gives the opportunity for practical training and research. And the main thing that I have understood is that the Department of Journalism, Advertising and Public Relations gives me a chance to try my hand abroad, thus, helps me to become a true specialist,” says student of СГ-103 group Ekaterina Rengach.
In the end of the Practice Day, an “On the Waves of Summer Practice” Festival took place, and the results of the best journalistic and advertising works were summarized in various nominations “Best Social Theme”, “First Signs”, “Best Promotional Activity”, “For Day-to-Day Work, Mobility and SUSU Radio Promotion”, “Best Design Project”. The winners were awarded certificates and letters of appreciation.
“I was glad to find out that I won! I was worried when they called the nomination. However I was hoping for the best as I worked very hard to prepare the material,” shares her impression the winner in the special nomination, student of СГ-311 group Marina Terentyeva. “I am glad that my material has won the prize. It gives me an incentive to develop further! It is always a pleasure when your efforts are appreciated! I think such events should take place because they help to develop professionally, learn the experience from your future colleagues and test your strength!”
