On July 2, a delegation from Xuchang University (China) visited South Ural State University in order to discuss development and terms of cooperation on implementation of joint educational programmes of various majors, as well as coordinate curricula.
As of today, there are several students from Xuchang University studying at South Ural State University on such majors as Electric Power Industry and Heat Engineering, and Product Technology and Catering Organization. A meeting of the delegation from China with representatives of the university was arranged to discuss comfortability of students’ study and further cooperation.
The delegation included: Chairman of Xuchang University’s Faculty Council, Yan Jijian; Head of the International Cooperation Department at Xuchang University, Guo Chaofeng; Head of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation at Xuchang University, Meng Fanshao; Director of the Institute of Construction at Xuchang University, Wang Jun; and Director of the Institute of Chemistry and Technology at Xuchang University, Zhang Yange.
SUSU’s Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Andrey Radionov, explained which outlooks of cooperation have been considered in the course of negotiations.
“We discussed joint implementation of educational programmes, namely the 2+2 model which has already become traditional for our university. Within this programme, Chinese students study in their home university for the 1st and the 2nd years, and then come to SUSU for training in profession-oriented subjects during their 3rd and 4th years of study. First of all, Chinese party is interested in such majors as Construction, Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics, therefore, we discussed possible options of combination of our educational programmes so that they could correspond to educational standards of both Russian Federation and People’s Republic of China.”
Afterwards, a meeting was held with Director of SUSU’s Institute of Architecture and Construction, Dmitry Ulrich, and Deputy Director, Sergey Pogorelov. They discussed joint programmes with the delegation.
“We had a meeting with the delegation and discussed the ways to solve existing problems. At the moment, there is a lack of academic hours provided by Xuchang University for their students, who come to study at our Institute. Before the delegation’s arrival, we’d sent them a renewed curriculum which we discussed today and have reached a concordance,” says Sergey Pogorelov.
He also noted that, starting from the next year, the Institute of Architecture and Construction is to launch a Master’s degree programme taught in English, which is going to be easier for international students to study on.
“We discussed our future cooperation on joint educational programmes, namely the 2+2 and 4+2 models, with representatives of the university. I can say that South Ural State University is very good, we enjoyed staying here. It’s a pity we had so little time to get familiar with the university and the city of Chelyabinsk,” says Head of the International Cooperation Department at Xuchang University, Guo Chaofeng.
Within the visit, the delegation had a meeting with students of Xuchang University. Students talked about their stay at South Ural State University. In their turn, Chinese party representatives could ask students questions regarding their study.
