Yet another academic year has wrapped up! This has been an interesting and memorable year. So, what have the students of the experimental groups and elite training groups learned?
The elite groups’ students of the 1st and 2nd years of study have successfully mastered the language material under General English subject, and are ready (as the end-of-the-year attestation has shown) to start studying the next modules. This year, the elite groups’ students of the 3rd year of studies have become pioneers in mastering quite a complicated and important “English for Special Purposes” module, in the course of which they were learning professional lexis and professional communication in a foreign language. And being the future specialists of the new generation, they also mastered the elective “Soft Skills. Negotiations” course, which had been developed by Norbert Berger, Professor of University of Graz, Austria. This course provided them with a unique chance to develop their personal and professional skills through online communication in English. Also, during semester 6, the third-year students entered the final stage of training in the elite programme. They tested themselves in passing an IELTS-format exam, since in December of the next academic year the best of the best elite groups’ students will be offered and opportunity to pass the international certification for real.
As to the experimental groups, they took their final attestation in the format of KET (KeyEnglishTest) and PET (PreliminaryEnglishTest) international exams, like the year before. Some of the students managed to test themselves at the IELTS-format exams. The second-year students are familiar with this procedure, that is probably why they did not feel so nervous. For the freshmen, such type of testing turned out to be a new and helpful experience. Many of them noticed that they had a more responsible attitude to their work. Those how have successfully completed their second academic year, will have an opportunity to continue studying English and preparing to the international certification in elective classes. The second-year students assessed their two years of training very highly and are willing to enrol to the elective course.
