South Ural State University is holding a Russia through the Eyes of Students photo contest. This contest is being organised by the Extracurricular Activities Department and SUSU Photo School for the fifth time already.
This contest aims at promoting patriotic education, involving students into creative activities, and developing their interest in Russia. Both professional photographers and beginners aged under 30 are among the participants.
The photographs submitted to the contest should be depicting Russia and its regions. It is important that participants capture interesting and attractive aspects of international life, traveling and tourism.
“Through these photographs students show their vision of our country. The participation in this contest allows them to share their insights on our world with other people. The photographs are appraised by the contest jury, which includes enthusiasts and teachers of the photo school,” notes Deputy Head of the SUSU Photo School Marina Vyatkina.
The contest is held under seven categories. Photos of the Russian nature were accepted under the category of Nature Has Its Own Charm…; pictures of urban architecture – under the category of City Life…; portrait photos – under the category of A World of Faces. Patriotic photos were submitted for participation under the category of We Remember, Feel Proud and Live on! Animals pictures were sent in for the category of You Become Responsible for What You Have Tamed… The best photos of the volunteer activities were chosen under the category of It’s Easy to Be Kind… And photos of university student life participated under the category of My Student Years.
This year the total of around 250 photos were submitted. The biggest number of works, 99 photos, were received for the category of Nature Has Its Own Charm.
The works are appraised in two stages. At the first stage the jury looks if the photos submitted by the participants comply with the theme and format of the contest and selects the works to be displayed in a photo exhibition. The photo exhibition will be held in the hall on the third floor of the main university building on February 28th.
At the second stage the jury members will be selecting the works with consideration to the originality of the photographer’s intention, art quality of execution, visual expression of the photographic material, and art quality of photography.
The contest results will be announced during the photo exhibition opening event. The authors of the best works will be awarded certificates as winners and prize-winners, as well as will be presented with souvenirs from the contest organisers and sponsors.
