It is highly likely you have been to both Valentine’s Day camps in various parts of your life: supporting those who find Valentine’s Day romantic and celebrate it every year, and those who believe Valentine’s Day is a cheesy and stupid celebration for losers. But when you love someone dearly, whether you have been together for ages, or for a short time, February 14th is another chance to show your significant other how much they mean to you. Below you will find some examples of how you can artistically express your love.
Things I Love About You Jar
Show your partner how much you appreciate him or her. Think about all the reasons you love your significant other and write them down on colourful pieces of paper. Then fold or roll them up and put them in a glass jar. There is a huge variety of fantastic Mason jars different shops sell, or you can take a regular glass jar and paint it to make it look as fancy as you want. Do not forget to use stickers to label your jar of love!
Valentine Postcards
If you think making postcards is either boring or difficult, it is neither. A homemade card is both the perfect way to tell your partner how much they mean to you and have great fun while creating it! You can find endless how-to guides and great examples of valentine cards online. Think about all the wonderful puns for the card that will make your partner smile. For example, make some candles on your card and write “you light up my life”; or pair a compass with the phrase “I’d be lost without you”; or make “you’re just my type” phrase with Scrabble letters. DIY cards do not require extensive supplies, and shops offer trinkets of all possible shapes and colours to make the card as personalised you want.
Heart Garland
Make a perfect valentine gift with this crafty heart garland. It is easy to make, and your significant other can put it almost anywhere in their home. You will need basic supplies for your DIY garland: cardstock, glue, strings, and scissors. Cut out the hearts from your cardstock and write something sweet for your loved one on some of them (or all of them!), each message written twice, on two hearts. Then glue the same hearts together back to back so that they are double sided. Punch a hole at the top of each heart to match the width of your string. Finally, string everything together to create a beautiful garland strand. Sweet!
Memory Box
Often we forget a lot of small memories that come from day-to-day life. A great way to show how much someone means to you is to present them a memory box filled with letters, photos, anecdotes, and other items meaningful to both of you. Colourful and decorated or simple and discreet - every memory box is different but perfectly captures all the memories you choose to preserve. There is no doubt you will spend the evening laughing and recollecting all the heartwarming moments you’ve spent together. After all, it is nice to be able to look back over what has happened and realise how lucky you are you were part of it.
Treat Board
If your significant other is a sweet tooth, a treat basket is the right thing to go on Valentine’s Day. Head to the biggest supermarket and look for a bunch of brand names you like most. Then try to think of any phrases that include the brand names you can use instead of the actual words. The phrases should show your partner how much they mean to you. Using the chocolate brand name Mars you could say “With you, I’m ready to go to Mars”, or “We’re inseparable like Twix”. Buy whatever treats you choose, then take a poster board and write down your love phrases leaving the space for glueing your candies/treats on. Here are some examples you can use for your treat board:
- Milky Way (You’re the best from here to the Milky Way);
- Skittles (You make my world colourful like Skittles);
- Vdokhnovenie, a Russian chocolate brand meaning Inspiration (You’re my Vdokhnovenie)
- Rich, a juice brand (I wish you to become Rich and famous)
- Milka (You’re as tender as Milka)
- 7 Days (I wanna be with you 7 Days a week)
Open When Letters
Open When letters are letters you give to your significant other. Each letter comes with an instruction to open and read it in various situations, for example, Open When You Are Sad, Open When You Feel Like No One Cares, Open When You Miss Me A Lot, etc. Open When letters can be in different styles and designs. They are easy to make and affordable. A sentence is enough for each letter, but it will mean a lot to your loved one.
Your set of letters should start with the first general letter called “Open First” letter, in which you talk about the rules of the game (you can make them up yourself). Here is a list of examples, to give you a clue:
- Open one letter per week;
- Do not peek;
- Do not show them to your friends.
Recreate Your First Date
Recreating your first date night is an excellent way to celebrate a special occasion like Valentine’s Day. Think about funny moments and how far you have come together. Revive those exciting feelings to walk along the memory road together. Try to go to the same place, wear the same clothes and eat the same food. If there were flowers during your first day, bring them too! Recreating your first date is a great way to stimulate the romantic and tender feelings you have for each other and deepen your love. If you did not have a great first date, you might recreate the best date you did have with your significant other or create your first day again, precisely as you want it!
Regardless of how long you have been together, these gift ideas will be highly appreciated by your sweetheart. Happy Valentine’s Day!
