He feels that a personal meeting with the girl’s parents is the only way to know her social rank. The girl, having been taken away abroad from her mother in her early childhood, has no idea her mother has sunk into poverty and alcoholism. Anni’s daughter is within a hair’s breadth of losing her happiness. What is Anni going to do? There is only one way - to turn into a wealthy lady, even for just a day.

Viktor Pelevin is one of the most recognised modern Russian writers. He is the author of such well-known novels as Omon Ra (1992), Chapayev and Void (1996), and of course, Generation P (1999). Generation P is a postmodern novel that describes a Russian generation that was forming during the 1990’s. From the story, we learn about the introduction of consumer capitalism and global pop culture. The Russians were dreaming about Western Freedom and Pepsi. And when Western Freedom and Pepsi knocked on their doors, the Russians saw a commercial with a monkey enjoying its Pepsi drinking while riding a posh car in a company of slim beauties. That’s what freedom looks like! exclaimed the Russians. That’s what you need to think, smirked Someone behind the scenes.
