International Office of SUSU has been working for more than five years. The activity of International Office is connected with the working out and implementation of the strategy of the university international activity development; assistance in the university internalization process; coordination and assistance of International Office subdivisions in the work with the foreign partners, international organizations, national embassies and consulates, including diplomatic missions of the Russian Federation abroad, national cultural centres and unions as well as ministries and state services. In addition, International Office performs the research and information support of the university international activity, including organization and conduct of negotiations, seminars, conferences, awareness sessions, advanced training courses, contents of informational resources and so on, as well as formation and presentation of reports; extension and support of academic mobility programmes for students and academic staff as well as assistance in the university subdivisions participation in international programmes aimed at the education programmes quality improvement and strengthening of the international reputation of the university. Such responsibilities as an implementation of joint international multi-disciplinary projects with foreign partner universities and organization of foreign students study at the university are also included in the scope of work of International Office.
Due to the implementation of such large-scale and important for the life of the university tasks, we have prepared a cycle of materials in which we will acquaint our readers with the activities of the departments that make up International Office. Thus, Immigration Services headed by Marina Davydova fully controls the presence of foreign citizens of SUSU in the territory of Chelyabinsk.
One of the most important tasks of the department is the implementation of actions aimed at the observance of passport and visa regime by foreign citizens.
The department also deals with a wide range of issues and tasks related to the presence of foreign citizens at SUSU; interacts with Directorate for Migration Affairs of Main Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for migration registration and visa regime.
So, for example, this academic year, 638 foreign students and attendees of the preparatory division have already arrived at SUSU for study and they keep on arriving. Each of them is provided with the migration support by the employees of Immigration Services.
First of all, the employees of Immigration Services prepare the invitations for the entry to the territory of the Russian Federation.
“For a foreign citizen from a visa country to be able to study or work at our university, it is necessary to receive an invitation. When the invitation is ready, we send it electronically to a foreign citizen so that he could get a visa at the embassy of his country. As soon as a foreign citizen arrives in Russia, he must pass the migration registration according to the place of residence. To do this, one should come to us with a passport and a migration card; we prepare the documents for registration and transfer them to Directorate for Migration Affairs of Main Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. After that, a study visa is extended. We prepare necessary documents such as a visa application form and copies of documents attached to it. A package of documents for a visa is processed for about a month, after that, foreign students receive a one-year visa,” says Marina Davydova.
Moreover, Immigration Services is engaged in filing a petition to extend the period of stay for students of visa-free countries, advises on migration issues in the territory of the Russian Federation and helps in obtaining a health insurance policy.
“We also deal with the migration support of foreign employees working at the university, and we prepare the work permits for them. Today, there is a steady trend towards the internationalization of higher education in the world; therefore, Immigration Services is trying to make the process of registering and extending visas more convenient for foreign students and employees. The work of our department allows foreign citizens not to worry about visa issues,” continues Marina Alexandrovna. “We are always happy to see our students and will be happy to answer all the questions. We are located in the Main Building of SUSU, east wing, rooms 150 and 151.”
